My son has an ipod touch 4, and he can record and play back on it. He loves it,

because it looks like an iphone. He's very into handheld electronics, and he

always has his " touch " with him.

Hope this helps.

One of my son's teachers suggested this iPhone/iPAD app, Dragon Dictation. My

son uses it on the iPAD to help with his writing assignments. It might work for

your son's needs as well.

audio devices

Speaking of kindles and ipods, therapist would like my son to have a mobile

device he can carry around so that his " talk-back-to-OCD " scripts are at his

fingertips. It has to be able to take a recording and play it back, and be

" cool " to own (not one of those mini-tape recorders). I've been stumped, being

slow on learning about all these devices. Any advice appreciated!

What to write to my son?

I plan to write my son as often as I can, but I'm in a quandary over what to

ay to him right now. Normally, I'd say things like I miss you, can't wait to

ee you, etc., but I think that would only make it worse for him right now. So

any words (positive or negative) cause him stress so I can't figure out what to

ay without stressing him out.

Before I left, I picked up a postcard with a beautiful picture of a sunset

ver a lake in Wisconsin. I wrote a note on the back telling him that there's a

ake just like the one on the postcard right next to 's and how water is a

alming and peaceful force and he can think of the lake whenever he is feeling

nxious. When I talked to him on the phone he was disappointed because I didn't

rite a " normal " note.

I went and bought a drawing pad and colored pencils, some magazines, and a

ook I dropped off before I left as well, but nothing seems to bring him any

elief or solace right now.

Would love to hear any suggestions you all might have on what I could write to

im.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help with this. Looking at the ipad and the ipod

suggested, do both the ipod and ipad have to use ear phones? Sorry I am

technology-inhibited. Son will not put an earphone in his ear but can touch

device if it has built in speakers and thus hear message. Husband is looking at

an MP3 - speaker docking set to see if that might work.

The Ipod Touch, newest generation, has speakers; he would be able to hear the

music or message without earphones.  I own one and have been taking it outside

so my preschool class can dance outside (no headphones and no extra  speakers).

Thanks for this info. Is there a monthly fee after you buy the Ipod? I started

calling Apple to ask but gave up.

Rhonda,

no, there's no monthly fee.  You can store music from CDs on the Ipod or buy it

from Apple's ITunes Store.  I believe you can also record with it.  Check

Apple's website for more information.

Hi Rhonda,

The iPAD doesn't need earbuds, although they can be used.

I had an ipod touch and I have an iphone now and both had external speakers.

I'm pretty sure the ipad does too. However, they were not that loud. Loud

enough maybe. The docking stations work well though.
