There was one study published in the 1950's (?) maybe, involving identical twin males. At the time males institutionalized for mental illness were routinely castrated. It was observed that if an identical twin was castrated he retained a full head of hair, even if his 'well' twin (not castrated) had 'severe' male pattern baldness.
