Guest guest
In New Zealand, cheerios are little sausages with red skins, about 2 " long. They are often served as finger foods on toothpicks, with a bowl of tomato sauce (ketchup in US speak). Or you can have saveloys, which are the same but sausage sized. They're both more like hot dog consistency. Maybe softer than hot dogs, but fimer than sausages. Never seen cheerios served with milk, so I guess your cheerios are biscuits (cookies in US speak) of some kind? Tas, another one for your list. Are you still around, haven't seen you for a while? Cheers, deb -----Original Message----- My memories of mom are cheerios & milk (Carnation Instant Low Fat Milk at that,) so I try (hard!) to remember other things I can love her for :-) ~Robin

Here Cheerios are a kind of breakfast cereal. They're made usually of oats and are little o-shaped bits. They're not very sweet and I actually have fond memories of eating them as a kid myself. Guest guest
Cheerios here in the US are ghastly little doughy circles of baked gluten and additives. About a quarter inch in diameter, they are supposed to be confined to breakfast in the form of cereal but are ubiquitous. The obnoxious circles are entirely too cute. I hate them. :-) ~Robin

Not to mention that they are loaded with trans fats ! And to think how many kids all over the country are gulping tons of it every morning. I guess they (and their parents) get carried away by all the cute pictures on the boxes and never read the labels. A cheerios label reads like a horror story in nutrition ! -Pratick __________________________________ Discover Find restaurants, movies, travel and more fun for the weekend. Guest guest
Although I am not a fan of cheerios, I don't think they have transfats. The ingredients are: Ingredients: Whole Grain Oats, Modified Corn Starch, Corn Starch, Sugar, Salt, Tocopherols, Trisodium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Colour. Contains Wheat Ingredients Irene At 03:27 PM 6/15/2005, you wrote: >--- Robin Reese <robin.reese@...> wrote: > > Cheerios here in the US are ghastly little doughy circles of baked gluten > > and additives. > >Not to mention that they are loaded with trans fats ! > >And to think how many kids all over the country are gulping tons of it >every morning. > >I guess they (and their parents) get carried away by all the cute pictures >on the boxes >and never read the labels. >A cheerios label reads like a horror story in nutrition ! > >-Pratick > > > >__________________________________ >Discover >Find restaurants, movies, travel and more fun for the weekend. Guest guest
I distinctly remember reading hydrogenated vegetable oil on the box of cheerios. I don't have one at home to verify, but I will check the next time I am at a store, and report back. -Pratick --- Irene Musiol <Irene.M@...> wrote: > Although I am not a fan of cheerios, I don't think they have transfats. > The ingredients are: > Ingredients: Whole Grain Oats, Modified Corn Starch, Corn Starch, Sugar, > Salt, Tocopherols, Trisodium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Colour. > Contains Wheat Ingredients > > Irene > > > > > At 03:27 PM 6/15/2005, you wrote: > >--- Robin Reese <robin.reese@...> wrote: > > > Cheerios here in the US are ghastly little doughy circles of baked gluten > > > and additives. > > > >Not to mention that they are loaded with trans fats ! > > > >And to think how many kids all over the country are gulping tons of it > >every morning. > > > >I guess they (and their parents) get carried away by all the cute pictures > >on the boxes > >and never read the labels. > >A cheerios label reads like a horror story in nutrition ! > > > >-Pratick > > > > > > > >__________________________________ > >Discover > >Find restaurants, movies, travel and more fun for the weekend. Guest guest
You may have been looking at a box of flavored (Honey Nut or other) Cheerios. I'm positive that plain Cheerios has no hydrogenated oils. Guest guest
I wonder if the cheerios outside the US are different? I just went searching and a site came up from the UK that said the Cheerios there have 3% transfats per bowl. The box looked very different from the US Cheerios boxes. Every other type of Cheerios (multi-grain, apple cinnamon, etc) do contained hydrogenated oil - mostly soybean. Steph Irene Musiol wrote: >That would be interesting. It looks exactly the same - box and everything. I was particularly shocked because it had the familiar Canadian Heart Association label on it (similar to the American Heart Association), claiming that eating several servings of cheerios a day would keep you heart-healthy. It was claimed as being a no cholesterol food ! I will report back later. -Pratick __________________________________ Discover Find restaurants, movies, travel and more fun for the weekend. Isn't that even more shocking because kids are likely to choose the flavoured one rather than the unflavoured one? -Pratick __________________________________________________
