Guest guest
, personally I wouldn't. The risk of harm is remote, but there are risks. For a healthy adult, IMO the benefits far outweigh the risks. But when you're talking about a developing fetus, I'd rather be on the over-safe side. I'm sure a lot of folks here will disagree, though. Val > HI, I am 19 weeks pregnant. Guest guest
Of course they will tell you it is dangerous! I am 26 weeks pregnant with number 4 and have had raw goats milk with all 4. Never told them, although I have a midwife and it is very likely that she wouldn;'t think it was a problem. R pregnant ok to drink organic raw milk? HI, I am 19 weeks pregnant. Is it ok to drink raw milk? I have been drinking it here and there but am unsure as the OB says no. Then again he is mainstream so I thought I would ask all of you instead.THANKS!Central NY
Guest guest
Just thought I'd pipe up too - conventional docs are going to say no, of course. If you trust your source for milk though, I think you'll be just fine. Go with whatever your comfort level dictates, and don't forget that women have been drinking raw milk and having healthy babies for centuries. (who is 18 weeks 5 days pregnant today!) Guest guest
Another thought, Is it safe to drive while your pregnant, I don't think I would.........There is a danger that the baby couuld be hurt or even killed by an accident. Probably more likely then by drinking raw milk. For that matter I would not walk across any streets either so long as I was pregnant. But then again I'm a man so I guess my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.........we don't count anymore! Matt Re: pregnant ok to drink organic raw milk? , personally I wouldn't. Guest guest
The choice isn't between 100% safe and 100% risky. As with any risky behavior, there's a balance to achieve. The key issue is whether the benefit of an activity is greater than the probability of harm and the size of the loss if that harm occurs. In my opinion, driving and crossing the street have benefits that far outweigh the probability of harm x the loss from that harm. The fact we drink raw milk shouldn't mean we can't acknowledge that there =are= risks to it and that sometimes -- for instance if one is immune compromised, or very young, or very old, or pregnant -- those risks might be worth at least considering. Guest guest
I have had 12 pregnancies with raw milk with raw honey for morning sickness. Later on I discovered raw milk mixed with organic concord grape juice(about half and half) My babies were always heallthy and my labor swift and easy. Just be sure to stay away from synthetic sweetners and pasteurized milk! If you think that I am bold to say these things than why are we having the opportunity to be on this wonderful message board? Guest guest
Barb, sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking me? Guest guest
Thanks for all the opinions! raw milk with grape juice?? I don't know if I could stomach that to even try. > > I have had 12 pregnancies with raw milk with raw honey for morning sickness. Guest guest
What are the risks to the pregnant woman and growing fetus drinking pastuerized homogenized milk compared to her raw milk drinking? Assessed without emotion, assessed with logic it would really be interesting to see what the pros and cons are in this situation. The only con I know of with drinking raw milk while pregnant would be the risk of abortion due to listeria. Are there more? How do you minimize the risk of listeria being in the milk other than pastuerizing it? I have always connected listeria with sileage. Does everyone feed that? The one con with store milk I can think of is that the calcium isn't as absorbable. I am sure there are more, right? Debbie Chikousky Manitoba, Canada gdchik@... Are there more? How do you minimize the risk of listeria being > in the milk other than pastuerizing it? Listeria is ubiquitous, it's everywhere. The bad strain of listeria is listeria monocytogenes, and that can cause spontaneous abortions. According to CDC statistics, there were 12 cases of listeria monocytogenes in queso fresco (fresh, raw milk mexican-style cheese) in 2000, 12 cases in 2003, and 12 cases in 2005. There were 69 cases of 'listeria' (I assume listeria monocytogenes, but it's not specified) in pasteurized milk in 1983, and 69 cases of listeria monocytogenes in pasteurized chocolate milk in 1994. The " CDC Report on Foodborne Illness from Milk " can be found on www.davidgumpert.com (scroll down to the end of the articles, before 's bio).
