Guest guest
I just made some homemade applesauce and I made quite a bit of it. I don't want to go through the whole hassle of canning it since I would need to do the boiling water thing which I don't understand. I was wondering how long I can just put the homemade applesauce in a plastic container in the refrigerator? How long will it keep in the refrigerator for? (1 week or 2 weeks) before it goes bad. Also, the applesauce wasn't completly cooled down (it was still pretty warm) when I put it in the plastic container and put it in the refrigerator. Is this OK or did I do something wrong? I'm just worried since I have colitis and the last thing I need is to be eating something spoiled or improperly preserved. I'm new to the applesauce thing and I think it's soooo much better than the canned stuff in the stores. Hoepfully someone hear has experience with this and could give me some freindly advice on what to do. Thanks. Craig
Guest guest
I store mine in ball jar that are called can/freeze jars. You can find them in the same place as the regular canning jars. They are great and you just freeze in them like normal. You could extend the life of the applesauce by fermenting it. There is an apple/pear butter recipe in NT. I have used it for apple sauce too. Mine lasts for at least a week unfermented and much longer fermented. I was wondering how long I can just put the homemade applesauce in a plastic container in the refrigerator?
