Guest guest
Tony: We (my wife and I) also home school our six kids and have one at the high school-level, and I concur with your statement that main-stream socialization can be more damaging than isolation. Albeit, I know a few (very few) isolationist home schoolers that are strange – to put it mildly. Moreover, I firmly believe that public school socialization promotes youth gang activity. I also find it ironic when asked by folks that do not understand home schooling, “What do you do about socialization?” or “How do your kids socialize?” They look at you when asking the question, assuming that if you home school you must be hermits. What a crock! Instead of directly answering their question, I counter with: Please provide me your definition of socialization so I may better answer your question? This really catches some folks off-guard, because they often have no concept of what socialization REALLY means, and they struggle with an answer. However, once a reasonable definition is hashed out, I can better answer their question; which is often based on: Who do your kids play with besides themselves? Easy to answer...lots of other kids. I also like to offer my absurd definition to socialization....Is socialization defined by daily interactions among kids of similar age absent interactions with older kids, younger kids, and a variety of adults? When I get a, No, to this question, I add, that is what public school teaches! The shocked look on these folks is worth a fortune. Home Shoolers rule!!!! Sharon: You stated: charges involves home-schooling as an abuse issue in itself and further claiming that no provision is made for the son’s socialization needs, but CPS never asked to see accreditation of the curriculum or what measures were implemented to provide socialization. What is actually charged? I’d be interested in this, as my wife (PE, BChEng) (mostly her) and I home school our 3 kids. Tony Ps I find irony in the fact that socialization can be more damaging than isolation. ....................................................................... Subject: CPS & One MD say Toxic Mold Illness is Mental, so Mom Likely to Lose Custody Hey Guys, Do you remember me telling you about this one? This is really bad. I was in the courtroom for this hearing. The County of Los Angeles should be called on the carpet over this one. I personally witnessed the LA County School District, the LA County Child Protective Services and the LA County Children's Court systematically work together on this one. This mother was a mentor teacher. Now, it appears because the County of Los Angeles does not want to pay for worker's comp, for a teacher their negligent maintenance of a school caused injury, she is a registered child abuser. She and her son are two of the nicest people one could ever have the privilege to know. They are fall out from ACOEM and AAAAI promoting the concept these illnesses are " not plausible " Health Freedom Foundation and American Association for Health Freedom 4620 Lee Highway, Suite 210 Arlington, VA 22207 CPS & One MD say Toxic Mold Illness is Mental, so Mom Likely to Lose Custody of Son Jane [identities shielded] was a teacher in LA who became progressively and mysteriously ill. So did her son, Ben, and several of the children in her class. After visiting several doctors and having many tests it was discovered that Jane and Ben were ill due to mold exposure. While California OSHA found mold in the school the school district wants her claim to be nullified. Jane was so ill she could no longer work and Ben was so sensitive to repeat exposures that he was eventually home schooled, which seemed to improve his health. They eventually found caring and competent physicians managing their healthcare. Then circumstances necessitated consulting a new physician. The new, “traditional” MD stated that “mold illness was all mental” and reported Jane to CPS for child abuse, claiming that Jane was mentally unsound and making her son mentally ill. This intelligent and caring mother is facing a trial in LA in November to take away her son. Apparently CPS also believes that toxic mold exposure is a bogus condition. Jane’s attorney has said that she will need to hire at least two expert witnesses (about $20,000) and that his fees will be about $20,000. One of the charges involves home-schooling as an abuse issue in itself and further claiming that no provision is made for the son’s socialization needs, but CPS never asked to see accreditation of the curriculum or what measures were implemented to provide socialization. Another demand was that both Jane and her son Ben be examined by a court appointed (but CPS approved) psychiatrist. Jane had good reason to fear bias so she sought organizations that might help her. She heard of one that acted on psychiatric abuses and contacted it. CPS used her contacting this organization as further proof she is an unfit Mom because they are affiliated with Scientology. This “fact” should not even be considered relevant and furthermore Jane didn’t even know this until she obtained a copy of the CPS report. Loans and prospects of part-time jobs are no longer possible because Jane has already been listed onto a national child abuse database, even though the case has not yet been adjudicated. (What happened to “innocent until proven guilty”?) She says that she has spoken with several other Moms in identical circumstances and even six years after being found innocent and fit in court their names remain on this database. PLEASE assist this small, loving family to stay together and fight injustice based upon those elements that do not want any legal support for victims of toxic mold. If you have followed what has been happening in New Orleans this is similar. Open your heart and wallet and donate to save this child. Tony and , I don't think I should discuss this case too much in detail on chatboard, but it wasn't an attack on the home school teaching. CPS was provided info that the child was being properly home schooled. They did not follow up phone call or ANYTHING. So when it was infront of the judge, it was presented that it was unsubstantiated the child was being properly home schooled. Personally speaking, I can't tell you how scary I found the Children's Court. I understand the need for broader discretion where there is potential abuse of a child involved. But this was a case of guilty until proven innocent and any info that proved innocent...we don't want to know about. I couldn't sleep for two days after watching this trial.
