Fiberglass shedding, the sequel

A time ago, I asked the list for their experiences with fiberglass

shedding problems as far as sources. Well, here is the reason

why. I have a client with the problem. Tape lift samples showed

glass fibers in two rooms of the building. In one of these rooms,

bulk samples were collected from each potential fiberglass source and

sent for analyses along with a dust sample from the same room. The

lab analyses found that the glass most likely was from the ceiling tiles.

The client and I have options to fix this problem. The first would

be to repaint the tiles in an effort to seal the fibers onto the

tiles. This would be labor intensive and sacrifice some of the

acoustical dampening of the tiles, while not totally promising the

problem will be resolved. The other option, and the one we favor, is

to replace the tiles with non-fiberglass types. These tiles include

ones with perlite or wood fibers, or we could do plastic. There are

also fiberglass tiles with vinyl facings or cloth wrappings.

Has anyone on the list tried alternatives to the common ceiling

tiles? If so, what did you use and did it solve the fiberglass

shedding problems? TIA. (BTW, I will get back to the filter issue

here in the near future.)

When I was younger, I had all of the answers.

As I get older, I have discovered the questions.?
