Guest guest
The first thing that affects the % cream is breed. Some such as Devon and Jersey give extremely rich milk. Holstein is much less. And there is huge variance between breeds and among cows with in a breed. There are strains or families that have much higher % than others of the same breed. I like Milking Shorthorn or Brown Swiss for the higher % cream and quality beef. Right now I have a 3/4 Red Holstein~1/4 Milking Shorthorn. She weighs 1200 and pours milk that is naturally skim, Unless I keep her on 6-8 pounds of cotton seed and all the quality hay and grass she can eat. Corn or nomal dairy feed doesn't seem to help much. It has to do with roughage. Bill Dunlap --- carolyn_graff wrote: > In what ways do these affect the amount of cream?
