Guest guest
Jeff: The MVOCs you mention are often too low in concentration to reliably detect with this Foxboro unit. The only time I have seen a reliable response from an IR or FID field detection device to MVOCs was when I was in a bakery that had a lot of ethanol in the air. This said, I imagine that if you took the device to a VERY well-contaminated structure with a lot of very active mold growth, and in an enclosed and calm space with no air movement, you might find a slight increase (using the Foxboro unit) in total VOC concentration inside the space relative to outside the space....but you are looking for differences of at most one or two ppm/v; which may be difficult to reliably discern. I don’t believe you will be able to speciate the VOCs at all. For what it is worth.... -- Geyer, PE, CIH, CSP President KERNTEC Industries, Inc. Guest guest
Jeff, We have a MIRAN SapphIRe 100E. Of the compounds you listed, the only one included in the Fixed Library for this instrument is Ethylbenzene (detection limit 1.2 ppm). Next closest is n-Propanol with a detection limit of .6 ppm. Have you considered an Inficon HAPSITE (portable GC/MS)? Ours is a first generation, and wouldn't be sensitive enough, but a newer model might be just the right thing for you.
