Guest guest
Moneca, I don't have any suggestions but I'm thinking of you and your little girl. I have two little girls (including one with a touchy GI tract) and my heart goes out to you. The Maker's Diet book is by a guy who had this and tried everything, finally cured it with probiotics, etc. and got many things from the bible. Not pushing religion but the book has many good things. Have you tried freshly pressed juice like carrot juice? Or a slow cooked soup. This is a long shot but the Hippocrates soup from Gerson therapy for cancer patients may be good. Slow cook potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, celery root or celery, (not much), onion, and parsley in a little water for 3 hours at very low boil. Then put in a blender. My kids have always liked it (I don't blend it), and I also add red cabbage, but that may be a bit much. This provides a lot of minerals and nutrients. So this or the carrot juice are extremes- hopefully one will be tolerated. Very small amounts at first will be needed. Peace to you also, Bob
Guest guest
I wonder if the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) would help her? www.scdiet.org I believe is the main site http://www.pecanbread.com/ has loads of info on using it with kids as many people with autistic children are finding much benefit (autism has a major gut component). Elaine Gottschall's book is " Breaking the Vicious Cycle " Sounds like your daughter is in serious trouble and if you don't get quick improvement from what Dr. Ron is suggesting, please look into the SCD. Take care, Alice - HSing mom to Alice (DS) born Thanksgiving Day 1995 :-) Hopewell Junction, NY http://users.bestweb.net/~castella castella@... New member hoping for some adive for daughter. Hi. I originally started looking into WP months ago hoping to find healing for my daughter's gut. She is 23 mo and has been vomiting several times a day for 15 mo. I believe she has a stomach motility disorder because all her tests have come up negative (scopes, barium swallows, blood) and she will vomit UNDIGESTED food that she ate 10 hours previously. I have tried things to increase her HCL and she has been on high quality (Houstons) enzymes for months. She has stopped eating and only consumes about 24 oz of 24 hour raw organic pasture fed jersey milk yoghurt per day. She is of course off the weight chart. Last week we went to see Dr. Ron Schmid in CT. He is an ND who bases all his practices on WP's research and his own research. He wants me to continue the yoghurt and added high vitamin butter oil, a richer CLO than I was using, and raw organic freeze dried multi organ powder. We have instituted all of this. I am hoping that some of you might have some further advice or encouragement. Unless her stomach contracts all the nutrient dense food won't help her because it just sits there and is not digested. Even the yoghurt which has all the lactose converted to monosaccharides (24 hour process) for very easy digestion sits on her stomach for 4 hours. Thank you in advance for your help. Guest guest
> Okay then, so wild fermentation? Or would kefir do it? Or does it > need to be the wild fermentation IN HAWAII? Connie, I'm not sure what you're asking. What I meant to suggest was that this woman found fermented poi to be digestible for her baby when nothing else she tried worked. If Moneca's baby is not doing well on the 24-hour yogurt,or anything else, perhaps poi may be worth looking into, since it is a highly digestible food. As far as the fermentation process goes, the woman who wrote the article had poi flown in from Hawaii, but she also had contacts there and maybe that was more convenient for her than sourcing the taro herself and processing it at home, especially with a sick baby. I don't see in the article that she specifies either the taro or the fermentation culture needs to come from Hawaii, only that this process worked for her and may help others. Taro root can be found here in Asian stores and at some farmer's markets; there is a recipe for poi in NT. Poi can also be found ready-made, but not fermented, at some stores, and online: http://www.hawaiiankinestuff.com/poi.html http://www.poico.com/artman/publish/article_20.php and if, on the off-chance, anyone is looking for old-skool fermented poi, I have a contact in Hawaii. Guest guest
> Okay then, so wild fermentation? Or would kefir do it? Or does it > need to be the wild fermentation IN HAWAII? Connie, Okay, on re-reading, I'm thinking you are asking how to go about culturing the taro root paste. Surely wild fermentation would work, but might be unpredictable/mold-prone. Kefir grains or kefir whey would be a better bet, unless someone was extremely casein-intolerant, then I would go with one of Body Ecology's starters, either kefir or vegetable culture, as both are non-dairy. Sorry but my mind is muddled. B.

Guest guest
Bob, Thanks. Read the MD book this summer and even tried her on the HSOs which she did not tolerate. Started juicing with carrot juice last spring, but she does not tolerate this well either. I made her broth this summer using the NT book, but she was only interested in this for a couple days. Guest guest
Alice, Thanks. We started the SCD this spring and had good results for the first month and then things started to go down. The problem is that her little stomach just does not contract well. Most people have three stomach contractions per minute that mixes the food with enzymes and digestive juices to turn it into chyme which is the equiv. of pureed food. Everything just sits in her stomach so the bad bacteria and yeast grows on anything that I give her. We finally gave in to the medical world and started her on a med to hopefully increase her gastric motility. My friend and I actually started a " healing the gut tribe " in mothering.com because we were so amazed with the SCD and are WP/NT believers. You gave good advice! Guest guest
Moneca, i wonder if any of the Metabolic Typing information would help you. According to them :for certain types certain foods speed up the digestive system, while for other types the same food slows it down. The Nutrition Solution by Harold Kristal is one book on the subject Ellen > > Alice, > Thanks.
