Is Erythema Nodosum common with Lyme Disease? I had it some time back,

pre-Lyme, and now I'm starting to wonder... Maybe I've had this Lyme

longer than I suspected!

Hi ,

I don't know if it is common or not, but many of us with Lyme had many

strange, undiagnosed rashes. My shin bone rash came about 2 months after my

tick bite. It was very itchy and was purplish in color and oval shaped. I

had it on both legs. One idiot Inf disease doctor told me it appeared to be

scabies, although he tested it and viewed it under microscope with a

negative response. He still rx'd Kwell, which did not help at all.....I am

still fuming over that guy! I also had a recurring shingle type rash under

my left breast, it came out monthly like clockwork. Very painful.....but I

know it was related to Lyme disease.

This is interesting! My mother has had several bouts with erythema nodosum.

She also has a very elevated sed rate and scleritis in one of her eyes but no

other symptoms. The doctors are scratching their heads. I have PA, but have

never had any erythema nodosum. Bizarre!

Well, of course it is one of those that can be triggered by gluten

problems ... also sounds like it can be triggered by " inflammatory bowel

disease " , so maybe anything that contributes to bad gut health? Taking

the good ol' Pepto Bismol is one quick and dirty trick, but long term,

healing the gut involves figuring out IgA sensitivities (statistically,

gluten, casein, corn, eggs, soy are the common culprits, gluten being

the most common), probiotics, and not eating SAD.

Sinus infections are commonly associated with said allergies too, and/or

IgG allergies. A Neti pot with a few drops of tea tree oil really helps

though, both to help get rid of them and to help prevent them.

Interestingly, when I looked this up, it sounds exactly like what I got

when I was a teen and working behind a candy counter at a local theater.

I don't know if it was standing up all day, or all the candy I was

eating that caused it, but I quit the job and they went away.

We present a 16-year-old girl with a 4-year history of chronic

persistent erythema nodosum. Recurrently low serum iron values suggested

the possibility of a malabsorption syndrome. The presence of

antitransglutaminase and antiendomysium antibodies and the jejunal

biopsy specimen findings showed an underlying celiac disease. On a

strict gluten-free diet, the skin lesions resolved and the girl has

since remained symptom free for 9 months. Thus celiac disease can be a

triggering factor for erythema nodosum. In the chronic form of the skin

lesions, serologic testing for this specific enteropathy may be justified.

Hi there. I'm not sure what it is you are describing. My son (recently

diagosed with AOSD) seems to have almost everything going, including some things

nobody else has. What is erythema nodosum? Is it to do with the heart? He

certainly has that going on...

erythema nodosum

Has anyone ever had this particular problem or livedo reticularis?

I have some questions about a new problem....

Thank you,

Beth

Yes, I have had this.  On three different occasions.  Very painful!  My mom even

took pictures ( a long time ago) when I had it.  Mostly on my legs.

Do you know if it was considered Still's related? Was your pain kind of

cross between muscle and arthritis pain?

The pain was horrible!  I couldn't even walk.  My son (seven at the time) had to

help me around the house.  At the time, I had yet tobe diagnosed with Still's.

It took them 8 years to finally come to that conclusion.

Now, during one of these episodes, a dermatologist biopsied one of the lumps on

my leg and it came back as Vasculitis, an autoimmune disease which causes

inflammation of the blood vessels.  But, it was referred to as " Erythema

Nodosum " at onset.

I can tell you that Prednisone nipped it in the bud, albeit a high dose.  I hope

I never get it again and if you have this, my sympathies are definitely with

you, as it is painful.  I also had joint and muscle pain during these episodes.

Keep us posted & feel better soon!

Hugs,

Gail (KY)

Good afternoon

I have had this too. abouy 4 years ago. But I don't have Still's my husband

Vick does. It was very painful and Predisone didn't help me. but I would

have the chills and shake. then more bumps would apear. these were like

haveing a Still's flare I thought. They were on my arms and legs and some

on my stomache but I agree I don't want to have this again. I too could

hardly walk it lasted about 4 month then one day it was gone. Kind of weird

stuff.

Happy Days
