Thanks for the great Vit. info. I too meant to post before but was busy. According to Krispin Sullivan's article on Vit. D on www.westonaprice.org - Unfortified milk (assume he means Raw) has only 40 mg. of Vit. D. 90% is D2, 10% D3.

Now for a personal note which I may get blasted for. But after researching Vit. D extensively I decided to try tanning in a sun bed from Oct. to April (I live in Boston). This has made a HUGE difference in my life. I don't do it because I'm vain (I'm 50 and care very much about skin cancer) but because I've suffered from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) for the last 10 years - since the move to Boston. Tanning for 8 min. once a week has really turned this around. I am less depressed, have more energy and seem to be healthier in every way.

Dr. Mercola recommends avoiding EMF. Wolff beds use electronic ballasts - so EMF is not a problem.Last year I tried to skip tanning and supplement with the highest quality Vit. D3 supplement I could find. Not only did I feel nauseous for about 1 hour after taking it - after several months I determined it was not working. I returned to tanning, in 2 weeks I felt 100% better.

My mom was right, fresh air, fresh milk and plenty of exercies - it works!

I too HAD S.A.D until I took this vitamin last year.

It is best taken with vitamin C AND with a meal with fat in it as

it is a fat soluable vitamin and you need to have the fat to

assimulate it properly.

Are you equating high quality with high price? They don't

necessarily go hand in hand.

I take the NOW brand of cholecalciferol and I have never had a

problem. I do get my levels checked periodically and all is well.

Try taking it with C and with some fat in your meal.

I have tried high quality Vit. D. I think that the amounts I need to take probably just do not settle well. I took them with breakfast (Bacon, Eggs and Milk and Fish Oils). The sun exposure I get gives me approximently 10,000-20,000 IU's Vit. D - but the Vit. D I was taking was only 2,000. I had problems tolerating anything more than 500 (twice a day - to make 1000). I think we'll find out someday that direct sun exposure for many people is the only way to keep up their Vit. D levels. I'm light skinned, blue-eyed - so I don't need much sun. The little I get by tanning for 8 min., once a week is a life-saver. You can't even tell I'm tan - although it probably is not good for my skin (wrinkles). But either I'm depressed all winter (I mean really depressed - even with using a SAD light - 10,000 lux) - or I do this - I'll take the wrinkles!

Yes, my Allie was recently found deficient in vitamin D, it was sort

of interesting because her thyroid function is too high. We now have

her on 2,000iu daily of D3 from lanolin.

Like others here, I've tested low for Vitamin D..22ng ref. range 30-100ng. My

doctor thinks getting me up over 60 will help so I'm taking 5000IU daily.

Get your vitamin D tested!
