Guest guest
23andMe, a personal genotyping company is having a sale today on there personal genotyping services. It normally cost $500, but from today through 11/29 they are offering personal genotyping for $99. They send you a kit and you spit in it and send it back. I don't know if this information would tell us much today about PSSD but it would be interesting to see if those who suffer sexual side effects from SSRIs have any genetic markers in common. Some of you might just find getting genotyped interesting. I know it interests me. In the future once whole genome sequencing is cheaper (genotyping is not the same thing) it would be interesting to run an analysis of 3 groups, those who have no sexual side effects while on SSRIs, those who have sexual side effects but only while taking the drugs, and those who develop PSSD. Maybe there is a certain allele we all have in common that gives us a higher propensity to develop PSSD. If that could be determined doctors could check for such things and let one know if they will develop side effects prior to prescribing the medication. Anyhow this is probably still a ways off but it is my belief that in a decade or so doctors will check our genetic data prior to prescribing most drugs.
