Guest guest
- Could that be because the ovens suck? I've bought Le Creuset, Descoware, (my personal fave) a Wustof carving knife, stick blenders, a KitchenAid mixer, Simac gelato freezer, a new-in-box, nine-cup Cuisineart food-processor with oodles of accessories, three Excalibur dehydators, a smoker--and all for next-to-nothing, except the KitchenAid, which was unused--but splattered with some sort of batter--for $100. AFAIK, most of this stuff comes from auctioned-off storage units. The ovens may just show up regularly because they are impulse buys/gifts but people don't switch over from their microwaves. Microwaves would be difficult for an SADer to give up, I reckon. Or maybe they were used in dorms/RV's. And most of them are used, some well-used. Now that my own curiosity is piqued, to make things interesting--for geeks like us, anyway--I'll buy one next week--if I see a good one--and run it through some tests. Guest guest
Hi! I'm new to NN, but have been following the Foodsaver and turbo oven discussions with great interest since I have both. I have a Flavorwave oven (there's more than one brand of turbo oven) and love it. They cook very fast and the meat is extremely juicy. I love being able to cook meat frozen (when, on those rare occasions that I forget to take something out of the freezer) in roughly a half hour, and that almost the whole thing goes into the dishwasher. It uses a halogen light to cook the food. Enjoying all these discussions ..... Regards .... Pat

That is quite a kitchen, but where is the Vita-Mix, Juicer, and the Flavorwave? I bought a complete set of Wustof knives, best knives I have ever used. -- " It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a 'dismal science.' A vintage Vita-mix was gifted to me by a client who upgraded. He also gave me an Omega single-gear juicer which I sold when I was given a GreenStar by another client who purchased it, never used it, then decided he'd prefer if I made juice for him, and charged for it. I have been most fortunate that way. I have seen Vitamixes and single-gear juicers here and there as well, but never needed one. If I had more NN/NT friends, I would just pick up as gifts. Flavorwave/turbo oven is something I've never considered before, but for all this chit-chat on NN. I'm incredibly envious of your knife purchase, since I have scoured fleamarkets for years looking for fine cutlery and never found anything but the single 10 " carving knife I mentioned ($7). It's strange to me, because I've found about *every other thing* you can think of (caskets! a pair of Shaq's shoes!) but never, ever, good cutlery, which makes me all the more determined to find some. The carving knife and stand mixer were gifted to my dear mother. B.

Does many wonderful things (soups, shakes, sauces, whole juice, etc.) and does them quickly. And it makes the most fantastic ice cream. All you do is throw in some frozen bananas, turn it on, serve, and no one can tell the difference. You can add berries and cream but its fantastic on its own. > I have seen Vitamixes and single-gear juicers here and there as > well, but never needed one. The closest would be my sister and brother in law, just because they like good food and he is an Italian Chef. I have had many friends like that over the years cuz I have been friends with a lot of folks in the upscale restaurant industry, but they just like great food/wine which was easily NT, but they weren't in the least hardcore like me. > Flavorwave/turbo oven is something I've never considered before, but > for all this chit-chat on NN. Well I was impressed by one of those late night informercials (or maybe it was the weekend) for the Flavorwave but was a little leery as to its safety. has assured me its okay. > I'm incredibly envious of your knife purchase, since I have scoured > fleamarkets for years looking for fine cutlery and never found > anything but the single 10 " carving knife I mentioned ($7). The > carving knife and stand mixer were gifted to my dear mother. Hmmmm....fleamarkets, thriftstores, etc., that is the domain of my mom and middle sister. They are champions when it comes to that kind of thing! My sister essentially outfitted her new restaurant that way (along with some incredible buys off of ebay). As for me I don't normally have the patience for that kind of thing but since I'm currently on a beer budget with still active champagne tastes I have visited a few as of late. Actually I don't have the patience for shopping period, unless its a bookstore or wine shop, in which case I can hang for hours. All that to say I bought my knives retail. I got seven of them and the block. That is all I'm going to say. $7 ???? Sheeez. Did I say that is all I'm going to say? Like I said that is all I'm going to say. All. Nada. No more. $7 ????? Sheeeeeeeeeeeez. -- " It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a 'dismal science.'
