The allicin in garlic (the assumed beneficial element) begins to diminish within

20 minutes after garlic is either peeled or crushed and one book I have says it

is completely gone within 3 hours. Just peeling garlic begins the process of

creating allicin, but if you swallow it without crushing it (either by

mastication or using a press) it will pass right through your body undigested, I

know, I've tried it.

Nope, doesn't work. It has to digest.
