Guest guest
Hey folks-- My 8-year-old is plagued with stomach aches, gas and loose stools/diarrhea. She has worse farts than her dad or grandpa, and that's saying something, especially in the latter case. It has gotten better since we've gone off wheat--she knows that wheat will cause troubles. Spelt doesn't seem to bother her, nor rye, so we're pretty sure it's not a gluten issue, and she eats hardly any dairy so I don't think it's a casein issue. Ginger helps a good deal and she likes it; when things are really bad she carries a knob around and chews it, raw. We just started experimenting with some of the ideas in " Healing with Whole Foods, " notably congee-style porridges in the morning; I cook it overnight in a slow cooker after soaking the grains during the day and the water to grain ratio is like 4 or 5 to 1. I cook it overnight with a few peppercorns and some ginger slices and serve it with a little honey and whole milk. (A good side effect is that I seem to be able to tolerate it too, and I've been having troubles with grains in the morning from a blood sugar perspective.) Ideas? It's really hard to get fermented foods into her. She likes kombucha and yogurt but refuses everything else. (Note to self: brew k-tea today...)
