Guest guest
Hi Local Media (An open Comment) Once again I open my local paper the Pontefract & Castleford Express, and in the letters page a familiar story. Letters promoting awareness of other illnesses and their needs, National Blood Service and the need for extra blood donors at this accident prone time of the year. Signed Gabby Logan Awareness of MacMillan Cancertalk Week Jan 22 – 26, asking for help, signed Helen Flanagan, Coronation Street Actress. I have read similar letter all from celebs promoting their cause even read Tarrant supporting male cancer, along with letters from various charitable organisations promoting awareness and asking for help. Yet I have not seen anything for ME from either the main groups, or their celeb patrons. Oh yes there has been something in for ME, but by local individuals and the groups they were involved with along with um as patron of MERSC, in fact was the only local group patron to actually write, so much for the others. There are many local papers such as the Pontefract & Castleford Express, and others in the group, including the Yorkshire Evening Post. Add to that Ridings FM and Radio Leeds, yes me and have been on both, and no doubt when it is Breast Cancer Week there will be Stella McCartney talking about the illness which so tragically took he mum. Yet come ME Awareness week I’ll bet again we will see nothing, it was once said to me that we should support the main groups, why when they can’t even be bothered to let PWME and other interested parties know what they are about and what those they purport to represent want.
