Congratulations, Filippa. What a lovely way to be born! He's a lucky

baby.

> Our baby was born on Friday 20th May at 2:10pm at Flynn

Hospital. We did most of the labour at home and transferred for the

final stage where we had a beautiful, natural, drug-free waterbirth in

their luxurious new birthing pool. I brought him slowly to the surface

of the water where he took his first breaths. He was totally alert,

peaceful and awake looking around and taking in the new world around

him. We had fantastic support people through the whole labour which

was long and hard but worth it! Our special thanks go to our beautiful

midwife beth Moen, our dear friends Annette Lewington and Anne

McCoy (I couldn't have done it without you both!), the gentle

acupuncturist Matt O'Hara (who sped things up when we were beginning

to despair), the gentle hospital midwife Anne, and our amazingly

wonderful obstetrician Dr son who just patiently let it

all happen how we wanted it to happen and of course our beautiful baby

who is so calm and happy.

pronounced " cookie " and is short for Kookaburra because when he does

cry (which isn't all that much), he sounds just like a kookaburra. He

weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces at birth (3860gm) and measured 53cm.

Wow that is awesome, Lana! Congratulations!

I love the name .

My baby nursed just like that, too. :-)

my son popped out in 3 pushes (doc didn't get the head control he

wanted). son pee'd happily, then nursed. and such is our mom-

preschooler sleepytime routine: go pee, then we'll nurse.

enjoy the babymoon.

I honestly didn't do anything special - I didn't even take breathing classes

(we did do a childbirth course, but we missed that day).

I also didn't take my Thorne prenatal vitamin regularly (only about 2 months

worth over the 9 months), no Vitamin C in any dose yet no stretch marks. I

didn't start the raspberry leaf tea until a few weeks prior to her due date

- although, it tastes so good I think it'll be my iced tea from now on -

yesterday while at the birth center I inadvertently discovered that frozen

ice cubes of unsweetened cranberry juice are awesome in it, as is the local

orange blossom raw honey.

Well, technically, I wasn't quite standing but I wasn't quite squatting

either. It was something sort of in between with me holding my weight up

with my hands on the bed because my legs were starting to shake. I probably

would have been better off with a full squat - as I did manage to tear in

two places (and both were bad enough to warrant a few stitches - but only

skin tears AFAIK). Then again, if I had been capable of listening to their

suggestion of putting my hand down there to protect my front as Sam popped

out, I probably wouldn't have torn as bad... I just couldn't figure out how

to redistribute my weight to do something like that! (Looking back I find

it quite amusing that something as simple and normally instinctive as

redistributing weight totally vacated me at that moment.)

I labored in the car on all fours with my head in DH's lap and as soon as I

stepped out of the car all I could think about was how much I hated

gravity! I definitely liked all fours for the labor and may have considered

it for the delivery if Sam wasn't so impatient. :)

:) My milk came in late last night, I could tell because she started

sucking differently. I'm glad she was satisfied by just sucking before my

milk came in - I was starting to feel bad that she was sounding hungry every

time she cried. Now I'm just waiting for her to let me know how often she

wants to eat! She's been napping for what feels like ages (maybe 4 hours?)

and I've tried twice now to wake her to eat - she's taken the offer but

fallen asleep a second later. Oh well! ... speaking of her - looks like it

might be mealtime!
