Guest guest
Hi - sorry for the late post. My second child was diagnosed with PMG at just over a year old and is now 3. When we saw Dr. Dobyns when she was 1 year and he diagnosed her, he indicated a 3-5% chance of recurrance - this was in 2005. We are now pregnant with #3 and I am 25 weeks along. You can see my earlier post about my recent emails with Dr. Dobyns regarding ways to diagnose PMG during pregnancy. However, in sum, Dr. Dobyns told us that in his opnion, PMG cannot be diagnosed during pregnancy with any accuracy prior to 32 weeks. The technique that he would recommend is fetal MRI and he specifically mentioned a doctor at UCSF who we should have read the MRI as he didn't trust anyone else to diagnose PMG from a fetal MRI except this doctor. When I inquired aboutt recommendations for where to get the scan, if we decide to do that (as I know they are readily available in my area), he also indicated that the scan should be done with this doctor at UCSF, if you want to go this route. He has not indicated any other means of diagnosis during pregnancy such as ultrasound. To your question about other options offered by our OB/GYN practice, I was offered the standard " first trimester screen " that is common for women over 35 although we didn't chose this as abortion was not a consideration in our case. We will instead do a level 2 ultrasound during the third trimester, if we chose not to do the fetal MRI. We are just hoping/praying for an uneventful delivery as the pregnancy has also been uneventful. Good luck with your prenancy and try not to worry too much - Sara > > I am now pregnant with our third child. Our second was diagnosed with profound PMG and did not survive past 4 1/2 months. I am currently 11 weeks and am meeting with the genetic counslor tomorrow. I know I'll be the one providing all the information since even my OB has never heard of our daughter's condition. Dr. Dobyns told us their could be a recurrence of 5 to 15% This sounds high to me. He also said her form of PMG was not as typical although she was not the only one. Has anyone had more than one child with PMG or Liss? What kind of tests did your OB/Gyn offer while you were pregnant? Also, She had microcephaly as well, is this something that usually occures with PMG? > Thank you > mother to Austin 5, and my angel in heaven. > > > --------------------------------- > Want to be your own boss?
