PSSD After 15 Years Use of SSRI

Hello everyone. My name is . I used SSRIs for 15 years. They have caused

(no surprise) PSSD and a strange effect of my testicles pulling up, particularly

when I am under stress (which started occuring after my psychiatrist had me

break open extended release Luvox capsules in an attempt to transition me back

to that drug). I have also had rash reactions to SSRIs.

My anti-depressant drug history is as follows. In 1994, was placed on Paxil.

Shortly after going on Paxil, I could not have orgasms (although I still could

get erections). My psychiatrist added Wellbutrin, and the problem was solved --

at least for a while.

In about 1996, I had a fixed drug eruption in reaction to the Paxil. It was a

round pink rash on my wrist in one place. According to the dermatologist, it

was caused by Paxil. Psychiatrist disagreed, but said he was moving all his

patients onto Luvox any way. Went to Luvox and continued to take the

Wellbutrin. No problems with sex -- at least for a while.

In about 2004, the original manufacturer of Luvox stopped makign the drug. I

was switched to generic. I broke out in a rash all over my body. Psychiatrist

agreed rash was due to Luvox. After trying some other drug (cannot remember

name) we moved me to Lexapro. Continued to take the Wellbutrin.

At first, everything seemed okay. Then, over a period of time, I noticed my

ability to get erections at any time other than the morning was decreased

considerably.

In the fall of 2006, in response to stressful situations, my psychaitrist

increased the dose of Lexapro. Almost immediately, I could not get erections at

all at any time of day. I could not even masturabate. After an argument on my

phone with my psychiatrist, who claimed it was not the Lexapro and/or the side

effect was not that important, I unilaterally reduced my dose. My sexual

functioning returned to that of before the dose increase -- trouble functioning

at all times but the morning (just before I took the daily dose of Lexapro).

In early 2007, I convinced my psychatrist to begin reducing the dose of Lexapro.

It helped some, but I still had problems except for in the morning before the

next dose. Over time, we decresed my dose of Lexapro to zero (but kept the

Wellbutrin). I made the last move from 5 mg Lexapro to 0 Lexapro without

psychiatrist approval. I continued to take the Wellbutrin.

Sexual functioning improved some, but still had problems outside of the morning.

Stress at work mounted, and within a few weeks the psychiatrist added Remeron to

the Wellbutrin. This caused premature ejaculation. Sexual functioning outside

of the morning improved some, but still was not the same. The morning remained

good except for the premature ejaculation.

As a crisis mounted at work over the next couple months, my psychiatrist decided

to try to move me back to Luvox. To transition me back, while I was still

taking the Wellbutrin and Luvox, he had me open extended release capsules of

Luvox to attempt to transition me back to it.

Within a few weeks, when I took the Luvox my breaking open the extended release

capsules, almost immediately my testicles would pull up hard into my body. This

was very painful.

I called my psychiatrist. He insisted the Luvox could not be causing this

effect. However, as it got worse, I unilaterally stopped taking the Lovox. The

problem tempoarily got better.

Eventually, I went off the Remeron on my own initiative due to the anger it was

causing. My psychiatrist once again insisted it could not be causing the anger.

Thereafter, after several attempts, I finally got off the Wellbutrin against

doctor's advice.

I cannot get erections except in the morning. Even spontaneous morning

erections stopped last April (around the time of some stressful events).

Whenever I am under stress, and whenever I take any medication or even vitamins,

my testicles pull up.

Viagra always me to get erections at any time. However, I am still concerned.

My urologist stays he does not know what is causing the pulling up, and just

wants to use the Viagra.

I was tested for low testosterone. It was " towards the low end of normal. "

Topical testosterone did not raise it much. Urologist decided it was not worth

it. I am looking for a new urlogoist.

Any thoughts of what I could try? I am taking ginko which seems to help some,

but the problems persist.
