Guest guest
Greetings, Are there any health risks associated with Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)? It is one of the listed ingredients in the Tom's of Maine flouride free toothpaste. It came on my radar when I found another brand of toothpaste at a HFS saying " Does not contains SLS " - so is it something to avoid? A quick Onibasu search indicates that sometime back there was information circulating that SLS has been linked to Cancer, but was subsequently indentified as a hoax/chain mail. What do you guys think? -Pratick __________________________________ Mobile Take with you! Guest guest
Hi Pratick, Check out: http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/index.php This site ranks the safety of ingredients of personal care products. It ranked your product (the only fluoride-free tom's I saw) a 4.9 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most dangerous to health. This link ranks all toothpastes they evaluated: http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/listproducts.php? ewg_cat=Toothpaste Here is Tom's fluoride free info: http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/productinfo.php?prod_id=909373 You can then click on SLS to get details. It looks like SLS may not be harmful, but other ingredients in the toothpaste may pose some health risks. Here is the link that summarizes by ingredient safety 192 toothpastes and lists the top 10 and bottom 10: http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/category.php?ewg_cat=Toothpaste It is a good site to help assess all kinds of products. I hope it helps you out. > Greetings, > > Are there any health risks associated with Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)? > > It is one of the listed ingredients in the Tom's of Maine flouride free toothpaste. > > It came on my radar when I found another brand of toothpaste at a HFS saying " Does not > contains SLS " - so is it something to avoid? > > A quick Onibasu search indicates that sometime back there was information circulating > that SLS has been linked to Cancer, but was subsequently indentified as a hoax/chain > mail. > > What do you guys think? > > -Pratick > > > > __________________________________ > Mobile > Take with you!
