scd'er can

drink raw dairy okay or do you mean we can use raw dairy for the yogurt or both,

lol? I

am really enjoying the scd, and am new to eating healthy. I haven't yet found

anyone in

my area (St. Louis suburb) who has raw (grass-fed) milk available to me so I've

been

ordering my raw butter from Organic Pastures Dairy on line. They sell grass fed

dairy, and

even better, they have Cream (I make my yogurt with half 'n half) but I don't

know how

fresh the stuff would be by the time it got into my hands. Would I just take

their cream or

milk and mix the " yogurt starter " into it, and start fermenting it as is? I

read on the

Organic Pastures Dairy site that raw milk already has lots of good bacteria in

it. So would

the existing bacteria interfere with the yogurt starter? Does it still ferment

for 24 hours if

we didn't boil it first?

I've got a yogormet from Lucy, and I make great half n half yogurt in it. My

husband is

also on the scd, and the yogurt is his favorite part, lol. Both of us used to

dislike dairy

(dairy as in......margarine, kraft american cheese slices, reg. store milk, gag)

but he is

interested in trying raw milk too.

that I feel like

I've been " living asleep " for most of my life, sigh. I just had no idea! But,

hopefully, an old

dog can indeed learn new tricks, LOL.

Oh gosh, I'm really sorry about that. I found out a while back that I wasn't

getting all my

emails, and one friend even got her emails bouncing back to her.

said it was

a temporary glitch of some kind, and it is hopefully resolved now.

Amazing! Brrrrr, that just makes me want to do my yogurt in the raw milk all

the more.

I'd find it hard to eat the dead milk after seeing what you saw, lol.

Ya know, I wonder if the gas would've gone away after a bit? Before starting

the SCD I was

always bloated like a woman 9 months pregnant, and for 4 months (after starting

the SCD)

I remained that way. Then my bloating went away until my 7th month on the diet,

and

now it is somewhat back. I know the bloating and gas isn't any fun, sigh.

There is a list of

parents who have their autistic kids on the SCD, and one lady put her child on

kefir, and

got incredible results. I'm wanting to try kefir, and I'll use the raw milk.

Hopefully you'll

be able to try it again too. What is CFS? I should've googled it, but didn't

think about it

until now. Brain fog just ain't no fun.

Thanks for all your help . Just talking about it with you and the others

here has really

helped a lot today. I'm getting excited to give it a try. And will be hoping

that you'll be

able to go back to the kefir soon also. But DO give the goat yogurt a try.

I've also got milk

allergies, but I've been able to tolerate the 24 hour yogurt.

I'm susceptible to even tiny amounts of lactose, so I don't know if

the gas would go away as long as I consumed any. Maybe one day!

Kefir is great, though. I didn't like it at first, but I wasn't fond

of any sour milk product at that time. I kept drinking it out of

discipline and ended up loving/craving it! I had 2 friends who also

didn't like it at first and I encouraged them to keep drinking a

little every day. They love it now as well.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I've had it for almost 12 years, but I've

been improving lately. :)

Have you tried having that Kefir " pop " stuff that Heidi drinks? I'm going to

ask her more

about that in a minute. I've been diagnosed as having glutten (and corn)

allergies PLUS

casein too, but I've ignored the casein and just eaten the dairy anyway. But

since I seem to

be getting even MORE allergic these days, perhaps I'd better try a dairy free

kefir or a kefir

out of raw goat milk.

You can make kefir out of coconut milk too, but I'm afraid that I might be

allergic to that

as well.

Yes, I make kefir " pop " w/apple juice. I haven't noticed any

beneficial health changes from drinking it, but I like the taste! Is

juice allowed on SCD, though? I don't remember.

You asked about butter in another post. I use ghee liberally and

love it. (I like butter better, but it's not an option for me since

I've got the casein/lactose problems.) Purity Farms ghee is great --

you should be able to get it at a HFS. No casein, no lactose & can

store at room temp.

For some reason I have a strong negative visceral reaction to coconut

oil, so I avoid that currently in spite of its benefits. I'll try

again one day.

Also, if no one here has kefir grains for you, you can purchase good

ones from GEM Cultures. That's where I got mine originally. I think

NT might list their address/phone.

Yep, one can have juices on the SCD. I'm going to try making kefir with raw

goat milk I

think. And then I wanna try the beer and pop. Sounds so yummy.

Ghee? I forgot about that, lol. I thought that real butter was basically 100%

fat so the

lactose and protein are pretty much gone???

My understanding is that butter is about 80% fat. I'd guess that

actual percentage varies. Ghee is 100% fat. I guess it depends how

sensitive you are; some people can tolerate butter, but I still have

problems with it. No problem w/ghee.

Nope, no need to heat/cool milk when making kefir. Just plop the

grains in the fresh milk! It couldn't be easier.

Raw grass-fed dairy can, if it's fresh and clean, be made into 24-hour

yoghurt without first heating it. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

It depends on how clean and fresh the dairy is. Raw dairy does have

bacteria in it, and if it sits around long enough, even under

refrigeration, those bacteria will multiply enough to compete with the

yoghurt starter bacteria.

Yeah, it is kind of like Carpenter's movie " They Live " . One day you

put on some glasses, and bang-o, the world's completely different from what

you thought it was!
