I do tend to believe it, but for me, the question is, is it a sort of Pavlovian response or is it inescapable? I've had Splenda a few times and it clearly effects me very much like sugar, but stevia has no effect on me at all. That's why, for some sensitive folks, even " healthy " sweeteners such as stevia cause high insulin responses. It really depends on the person. Whether it's " Pavlovian " or not seems like a moot point, since food will always have taste and smell.
