Guest guest
Prompted by this morning's menu discussion, I decided to post one of my occasional menu breakdowns, as much because I'm curious to see what I'm eating as for any other reason. I'll append dinner to this thread once I eat it. Brunch consisted of: 4T coconut oil -- 56g fat 305g steak -- 27.5g fat, 37g protein 2T habanero sauce -- 1g sugar 8oz sheep yoghurt -- 17g fat, 13g carb, 15g protein 2/3 squirt blueberry concentrate -- 6g carb 1oz unsweetened desiccated coconut -- 18g fat, 7g carb, 2g protein 126g cheese -- 40g fat, 4g carb, 30g protein. Totals -- 158.5g fat, 31g carb, 84g protein, or 1585 calories from fat, 124 calories from carbs, 336 calories from protein, 2045 total calories, 78% from fat, 6% from carbs, 16% from protein. Of course, there's a lot of guesswork in there, particularly in picking the most accurate steak and cheese entries in the database, but I'm guessing it's at least roughly correct. In terms of deviation from the norm, I often put some Goatein in my homemade yoghurt to make up for its low protein content since I make it from 3/4 cream and 1/4 milk, and I generally have some kimchi, but I ran out and won't have a new batch for another few days. (I've had trouble finding wild head-on shrimp, surprise surprise.) I skipped the Goatein today because I was using sheep's milk yoghurt, which I do only rarely, and I didn't actually sit down and figure out how much protein I'd be getting. I'm guessing that my carb percentage is usually closer to 5% as I almost always eat my own yoghurt, and I may have eaten a little more for brunch than usual due to the lower-fat yoghurt. I do feel kind of full, anyway, so maybe normally I eat 10-20% fewer calories at brunch. ly, I think I definitely should've put some Goatein in the yoghurt, because that just doesn't look like enough protein, considering that I'm trying to build (rebuild) muscle mass. Even with Goatein, though, my totals would've been 160.5g fat, 34g carb, 97g protein, yielding 1605 calories from fat, 136 from carbs and 338 from protein, for 2129 total calories, 75% from fat, 6% from carbs, 19% from protein, and normally I'd have eaten a scoop of Goatein but not the extra protein from sheep's milk, so it might wind up being close to a wash. Granted, percentages are probably less important than total amounts when it comes to protein (and carbs) but I'm still wondering if I ought to be eating more protein. Any thoughts? (BTW, for anyone in NYC who's interested, the sheep's milk yoghurt was from 3-Corner Field Farm, which is at the Union Square farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and it tasted surprisingly like villi.) -
