I have two pounders a big one and a littler one, both are made from hickory pick handles. The smaller one I made by shortening the handle and cutting off the head of the pick handle at a diameter where it will fit into my jars. It works really well for packing kraut down in jars. > Agreed. I purchased one of those specialty rolling pins that is nothing more than a nice piece of hardwood about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
