Guest guest
Yes, we are moving to the DC area in August. My husband will be attending school to earn his master degree in Public Health at the National Navy Medical Center. Not sure if we should find a house in land or Virginia area. Which one would you recommend for special needs? I also have a 7 yr old who will be starting 2nd grade. Any advice? Thanks, Donna
Guest guest
Donna, I would strongly recommend looking for housing in Montgomery County, land. I live in Olney which is in montgomery county and from talking to other parents around the area, we have the strongest services for special needs. I am assuming he will be based in Bethesda, md? Olney is about a 30 minute commute. It also depends on how much you want to spend for a house. Mongtomery county is more expensive than other counties, but again the services are better. Bethesda, Rockville, some areas of Silver Spring, Kensington, Olney, Damascus are all good areas. Depends on how long he wants to drive as well. Public schools in montgomery county are good as well. Do you plan on visiting prior to August? We would love to meet. There is another family with a daughter with PMG here as well. What are you looking for in an area and I may be able to help more. Do you have friends or family around here? Let me know. christina > >Reply-To: polymicrogyria >To: <polymicrogyria > >Subject: Re: [polymicrogyria >Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 15:09:21 -0500 > >Yes, we are moving to the DC area in August. > My husband will be attending school to earn his master degree in Public >Health at the National Navy Medical Center. >Not sure if we should find a house in land or Virginia area. Guest guest
, I have another friend from a different listserv, Marilyn, that leaves in Olney also. Her daughter has SOD(Septo Optic Dyplasia). Do you know her? You gave a rave review of Montgomery County. It makes me lean toward this area instead of VA. I will look into these areas you mention and see if there is a home we can hopefully afford to rent. My husband doesn't want to buy right now since we do not know if we will be living there more than 2 yrs. He wants to live as close to the red line metro as possible. I want a good neighborhood and good schools for my boys. Does your child attend a public school? We do plan a quick trip to the area around the end of June. I would love to meet also. We do not have family or friends in the area so I am hopefully I can meet people from the listservs I am on and become friends. Take care, Donna(mom to Trevor, 10 yrs old moderate PMG and BPNH, seizures, SOD, ect........ and mom to Noah, 7 yrs old) Re: [polymicrogyria >>Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 15:09:21 -0500 >> >>Yes, we are moving to the DC area in August. >> My husband will be attending school to earn his master degree in Public >>Health at the National Navy Medical Center. >>Not sure if we should find a house in land or Virginia area. Guest guest
Donna, I don't know Marilyn. What exactly is SOD? Where does her daughter go to school? My son Connor, age 7 (in first grade currently) goes to Belmont Elementary in Olney. Riley, my PMG 5 year old, is in kindergarten at Cannon Road in Silver Spring (20 mins away). All public schools. The red line metro does not go to virginia by the way. The blue and orange go to Virginia but they meet the red line in DC. Here are the areas that are close to the red line: Gaithersburg, Rockville, Bethesda, Silver Spring, Wheaton (don't recommend), Takoma Park. Olney is a 10 minute commute to the Glenmont metro which is on the red line. Bethesda, Rockville, Olney are all good school districts. Takoma Park, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring depends on where you are. Does Marilyn have any ideas for you as well? We would love to meet you. Let me know the dates you will be in town and we can have you over for dinner. Our kids may be at the beach with their grandparents, but my husband and I will be around. We are going out to see my sister in Washington State from June 15-19. Hope this helps. By the way, where do you live currently? christina > >Reply-To: polymicrogyria >To: <polymicrogyria > >Subject: Re: Re: [polymicrogyria >Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2006 08:13:42 -0500 > >, > >I have another friend from a different listserv, Marilyn, that leaves in >Olney also.
