Hi everyone,

Received a letter from Manchester Unity today informing me of changes

to my health insurance cover. Hubby and I have the Healthmate

Executive cover which costs around $85 per fortnight. When reading the

fine print I noticed that they will no longer cover gastric banding

from May 2008.

My husband is due to have his gastric band on Wednesday, so it seems as though he got in just in time!

Apparently many other health funds are raising their premiums and

dropping coverage for certain procedures such as gastric banding, so

for those of you who are waiting for your health insurance to kick in,

it might be worth a phone call to find out whether your health fund

will cover you for gastric banding!

Gasp!!! That sucks....

Do you mean they wont cover the hospital stay

Cause they don't cover the banding itself so I guess it means the hospital coverage

I cant believe that its dreadful...

Wow wonder if medibank private will do that

Geesh we pay all this money in n still fork out for all the extra stuff like gap for surgeon and anesthetist

And other stuff......our out of pocket is already huge

Add the health fund costs on top.....groan

Obesity is a disease....maybe they havent heard that......

Ohhhh this makes me mad.......

Okay I had my whinge

Mmmm...... I know why - because it is becoming more popular and therefore, they won't cover it.

I agree, this pisses me of no end. I have promised my daughter that I will pay for her banding this year - she is still under the umbrella of our private cover - but now I will have to ring and make some enquiries as to when the cut off will be. I am with MBF... I was under my parents cover, and then I went singles back in 1979 - but they certainly don't give long service that is for sure... cut you off like an unwanted toe nail they will if it suits them. I will ring tomorrow and hope that we are still covered until January 7th when she is planning to make her date! Bet it is going to be a problem... BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER. Watch the bariatric surgeons get inundated with people rushing pre any changes.

Libby & Mel,

I am now going to copy and paste this onto the Central Coast site as

well. This really sucks... it has just reinforced my hatred towards all

insurance companies. I have had numerous bad experiences over the last

few years, but the worse part of it is I really can not afford to be un-

insured!.

Cheers
