Guest guest
I'm way behind on the posts, due to a not-very-good week or two :>) However, it does interest me that there are so many different " helps " for sleep...Proving (at least to me) that each of us with this illness is so different. I've finally decided to see a neurologist at the local sleep center. He was recommended by my therapist. I haven't seen a neurologist since I was finally diagnosed--12 yrs. ago. It will be interesting to see what he has to say. Right now, I'm having trouble sleeping, alternating with sleeping too much... All the best, Theresa in TN
Guest guest
I am a chronic insomniac and have restless leg syndrome. I have been on many medications but right now I am on Clonazepam and Amitryptaline. They seem to be working well. My problem is most of the meds stay in my system too long and I could barely wake up after 8 hours of sleep. Also, some natural Sleep products help if your problems aren't severe. I use Sleep Blend SP-17 by Soloray when I need to relax. Guest guest
I, too suffer from restless legs syndrome. It is my understanding that this condition is common in people with CFS. My neurologist has prescribed a drug called Requip, which you see advertised on TV a lot. It's approved for RLS and it really works. I also take Mirapex and it works, too. Both drugs were originally developed for Parkinson's, I believe. Don't continue to suffer, , there are drugs to help you. I know what you're going through. I experience it as an overwhelming need to move my legs. It sometimes starts in the afternoon if I'm trying to relax or take a nap and in the evening and at bedtime. Anytime I'm resting or trying to sleep. If I had to live with this, I'd go crazy. I take 25 mg. of Requip at about 5:00 p.m. and 75mg. of Mirapex about an hour before bedtime. It can be sedating, but you get used to it and the effect lessens. One possible problem with these drugs, I've heard, is that you can get what's called " augmentation. " This is where the problem actually gets worse because of the medication. However, my doctor said you can just increase the dosage. Call your neurologist tomorrow and ask about getting some relief. Guest guest
I am a complete insomniac as well have sever problems with Anxiety and Depression. I have been on many different meds for sleep because it was impossible for me to find one that didn't make me sleep 12 hours at a time. I tried lower doses but then couldn't get to sleep. After 2 horrid sleep studies (I barely slept) they said I had restless leg syndrome. My doctor prescribed Amitriptyline, 50 mg and Clonazepam, 1 mg. They seem to work well together for me. It's very hard to find meds that work because everyone's body is different. I would be wary of any drug that made my problem worse! Just increasing the dosage is not good! I know this because I was on Xanax for awhile and they 'Just increased the dosage' many times until I was so dependant on it I had to come off it and go on something else. I had to take time off work when I was 'coming off of it' because I could not sleep and was a mess! Also, if it makes the problem worse is this permanent? I believe my RLS may have been caused by one of the many Depression drugs I was on that is now no longer prescribed because of so many lawsuits from the ill side effects. Definitely call your neurologist. Good Luck! Alison
Guest guest
Hi, I wanted to add is that finding a comfortable position in bed or anywhere when the pain cycle hits is really hard. So my husband decided that I needed comfort things in my life. : ) One of the 'comfort' things I have that helps is a special HUGE pillow that cradles my body. It's bigger than a normal body pillow & its U shaped so I can also lay on my side & have my legs elevated. I believe its made by leachco. My sleep has improved a lot with this. Plus it's 1 pillow instead of 4 or 5. Also- it helps me to have soothing scents around. I use a tea light candle holder with soy candles of different scents. I know those are not medical things- they help a lot. I hope some of these ideas are of assistance to others. With peace, Debbi
