For ur valuable inputs and your correct way of practising medicine, in today's

world.

I am sure, some of us down the line, would really love to put ur principles into

our practise..

Re: What they don't teach us in Medical colleges..

Dear Mukund da,

I think it is doctors like you who maintain the dignity of the profession and

recognise the sacredness of the trust between a patient and his/her doctor.

Unfortunately, these qualities are lacking among many members of the medical

fraternity today.

At the end of the day, I feel all this depends a lot upon the type of person

that the doctor is. If the individual is socially responsible, then he /she

automatically becomes a more responsible professional.

You did ask our respective opinions about whether you are a misfit in today's

world. I believe that you are at peace with yourself and your choices, so you

can absolutely fit into today's world - and tomorrow's as well :-)

Cheers,

Prabha'84

Dear Shyam,

Congratulations for taking out an important & conflicting topic. I do agree

I started my practice 23 YRS BACK, when there was no Gynaecologist in

Chalisgaon and today there are 15 of them. When I started my practice there

were people explaining me about cut practice, group practice, gifts and

percentage and perks from various drug companies but I prefered my

independence to all these attractions. I always thought that patient is my

first lauyalty and I should give best possible (cheap, potent and reliable)

option to her. Ofcourse if I start from ABC in today's scenario can I afford

to keep the same stand ? I feel in long run..... yes...! I must...!!

According to Modern Medicine whatever newer newer medicines , techniques,

investigations or machines are coming up are day by day increasing the cost

of medical management. The govt hospitals are becoming day by day failures

due to lack of facilities ( It's again a very big subject itself..!!) The

poor ignorant people of India look towards this system to seek help to

become healthy but can not recieve attention even for want of money. Then

they go for alternative medicine or superstitious ways and we abuse them for

doing so.We should become bridge between these pathies the way Hon. Rani

Bang madam has done for Ayurvedic medicines of tribal people. I use lot of

homeopathic medicines in my practice and cure patients in a cheaper & better

way with least side effects.

We do look at patients as a specialist and look at him as a mechanical

person. But many of the problems come from his social, psycological

situations. Do we really peep in to his environment to find the root cause

of problem?

Patient looks towards us for getting some psycological support, few soothing

words, a pat from a freind, Instead we make him more afraid by giving big

diagnosis, costly investigations, total body checkups etc etcWe do not

teach him art of living, We do not preach him how to remain healthy. For the

infertile couple we insist on IVF-ET, ICSI, SURROGATE MOTHER, but we do not

convey about adoption.

Last but not the least, we do not accept if there are more number

of practitioners( NOT Compeetiter) in the field I will have share my

practice. And also in my experience after so many years I have experienced N

number of practitioners may come your impression of honest practice never

leaves you hungry. Finally one has to decide what are his aims and

objectives? How much money is required for livelihood? Or should I keep

envying about person earning more ? What about job satisfaction (smile on

the face of the patient) ? peace of mind? time to spend for hobbies,

relatives friends?

This is my view and I am happy with it. What is your opinion ? Am I old and

misfit for today's world? Pls, comment.

Mukund (1974)
