Guest guest
I went back on SSRIs a couple of times to see how it affects my sexual functioning. The erections were better, but the genital numbness got worse. PSSD causes penile numbness but going back on SSRIs caused a secondary form of numbness that is all over the genital area. So, interesting thing is after stopping, PSSD went away totally for a couple of days and again back to normal. So, something in there is messed up that seems to respond to SSRIs but not in the way we expect it to. I think that different receptors get desensitized when you are ON SSRIs and its a different set of them that stop working AFTER you quit SSRIs. So, when you go back on and then quit SSRIs, may be the type of receptors that get back their sensitivity are partially responsible for getting back the sexual functioning, I guess. Guest guest
two weeks is not enough. Usually first week you feel nothing. second week you start feeling the effect but you will be very restless for 5-7 days. Then after that you will start feeling better. it is too soon to judge. Guest guest
hi,  did you taper off slowly with these experiments?  I think a lot of us here with PSSD quit cold turkey & that might have something to do with PSSD developing.  I don't know of course, it's just a theory. Guest guest
I agree. Just to be sure about this, I went back on Zoloft twice and both times stopped abruptly and the improvement was noticeable both the times. Guest guest
When I was experimenting by going back, I stopped cold turkey. Which was how I stopped it the first time around when I got the PSSD. I don't know if I would have had sustained improvement if I had tapered off. Not even interested in finding out. :-) From: H S <hs242yahoo (DOT) co.uk>Subject: Re: Re: Going back to SSRI??To: SSRIsex@yahoogroups .comDate: Thursday, July 1, 2010, 4:40 PM "my erection got better after coming back to SSRI"this is the same for me. when back on SSRI, everything works better.. libido, erections. but i am told by my doctor that is is atypical of PSSD.he reckons that the fact that SSRI restores my libido and erections means that any sexual dysfunction is probably not caused by PSSD. i.e he thinks i dont have it.have many people on this group been on and off SSRIs? and does going back on them restore their libido, erections etc? Guest guest
Sexual functioning doesn't get better by going back on SSRI. It gets better temporarily when you go back on SSRI and then quit cold turkey. Subject: Re: Going back to SSRI??To: SSRIsex Date: Saturday, July 3, 2010, 8:42 AM Hi guys, that's interesting stuff...Just to be sure and to summarize: 1. Sexual disfunctions get much worse after stopping SSRI?2. When going back to SSRI the sexual functions improve?3. Going back to SSRI (and quiting them again) overall has a negative effect (you don't get fully the same as you were when on SSRI for the first time and you get worse PSSD when quiting for the second time)? Thanks for all the input!> >> > I went back on SSRIs a couple of times to see how it affects my sexual functioning. Guest guest
I have now been taking magnesium for four days and I feel like a million dollars and things seem to be returning to normal, granted I was not on SSRIs for very long but my anxiety and depression seem to be leaving me and my anxiety was getting worse after I was off of everything, not sure if it was withdraw causing some of the same symtons I presented with. If these sites are correct magnesium deficiency is almost universally part of depression. All I know is today I feel great, so I am going to enjoy today and try not to worry about tomorrow. It really cannot do any harm to try it. Also my dizzyness is leaving me, which is what caused me to go on anti depressants in the first place. I have do idea if there is a test for this, if there is and if these sites are correct it is a shame that doctors run to ssris rather then try magnesium first, that said vitamin companies don't take doctors out to wine and dine them. I certainly don't want to say it cured me, I was only on ssris for a month and then remeron for a month so it may be that is simply took a month and a half to get both the ssirs and remeron out of my system but nothing was working for a while. It contains 300 mg of elemental magnesium per 500 mg tablet, but is extremely poorly absorbed. Only about 4% of its elemental magnesium is absorbed or about 12 mg out of a 500 mg tablet. Magnesium citrate contains 80 mg of elemental magnesium per 500 mg tablet. It is far better absorbed than is magnesium oxide. The water soluble form (Natural Calm) contains 205 mg of elemental magnesium per teaspoon, is totally soluble in hot water and is highly bioavailable. Chelated magnesium (magnesium glycinate) is magnesium bound in a complex of glycine and lysine. It is easily absorbed and highly bioavailable. The magnesium (elemental) content per tablet or capsule is usually 100 mg. >> Hi there,> > My first post on this blog. > > I have been on Zoloft and Effexor for about 6 years. > > Because of the sexual side effects (erection, libido, ejaculation) I decided to try get of SSRI's.
