Guest guest
There is no active measures we can take to heal, even if you prove to your doctor you have PSSD what can they do? PSSD is a slight form of brain damage, the can not give you a pill to repair the damaged neuron structures. The only medicine we have available is time and exercise. It is a waste of time and money I promise you. I don't want to destroy your hopes I just want to save you a little more frustration. I have a technique I'm using to get healthy again. I am focusing my thoughts and attention on sensation. I block out everything outside. In essence I'm trying physical therapy for my brain. I want to 'teach' it what penile sensation is all over again. For the most part I can now actually detect the difference between numbness and the occasional signal of pleasure. > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. It ended up being a huge waste of time. Since my blood test results showed that my testosterone was at a normal level and I didn't have any kidney issues, thyroid etc., he could not tell me where or how my erectile dysfunction was happening and gave me some cialis and said to come back in 4 months. I guess since I am not showing and physical problems that link me to erectile dysfunction, there is nothing they can do. I was extremely disappointed. Now I'm thinking I should look into seeing a neurologist, because I have a feeling that a scan of my brain is the only way to show that my PSSD exists. Maybe then I can get some answers. Do you think this should be my next plan of action? > > >
Guest guest
I went to see a urologist in December 07, he gave me the run around also. I then went to see a neurologist in June 08, he gave me a battery of tests, and they showed nothing. However, he never gave me a brain scan of any type. I feel that if he had, it might have shown something. My advice to you is, to not let the neurologist do a bunch of other tests, but ask him for a PET scan or something of that nature. That might give you some answers. I lost my health insurance, so I never got to go back and get a PET scan myself.

Guest guest
No he didn't give me the number, he just told me it was at a normal level. I wonder it there is any other way to test for a low/absent libido? > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. It ended up being a huge waste of time. Guest guest
Thank you , I'm going to ask for a pet scan as soon as I get a chance to see a neurologist. I haven't had any luck in getting some prevelance of PSSD, but I know there has to be some test out there that shows why it is happening. We won't find a cure unless we keep looking for different tests to show what area of our body is damaged from ssris, then and only then we will have hope for an antidote. > > I went to see a urologist in December 07, he gave me the run around also. > I then went to see a neurologist in June 08, he gave me a battery of tests, > and they showed nothing. Guest guest
Good luck friend. Please tell us what the scan reveals. I always wonder to myself what PSSD "looks like" in the brain.
Guest guest
You might want to press him for that number, you could have a very low number that still falls within the " normal " range. The problem is the scale is seriously flawed. It includes males from puberty to the grave and it includes sick individuals. It would be like testing untreated diabetics to determine the optimal blood sugar level. This is pretty common knowledge among testosterone patients And among the very small number of doctors who actually know what they are doing with regards to TRT. The number has to be viewed in context of your age and your symptoms. Without a doubt there are many factors involved with PSSD and low T among males seems to be pretty common and it's one area that can be addressed. While I don't consider myself " cured " I am greatly improved and most of the time sex feels pretty damn good. I have been able to remarry and carry on with life. And before some joker gets on here as they always do and replies that he " tried testosterone for 3 weeks and it didn't help " let me say that TRT is complicated and you would probably need 4 to 6 months with a doc who actually knew what they were doing to get optimized. Well there, I feel obligated to repeat the message from time to time in the hope it may help even one more person regain some of their life. I feel better now. > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. It ended up being a huge waste of time. Guest guest
Hi Steve, 540 is well into the normal range. I don't think you need TRT. I am at 338 and the doctor didn't even think that was low enough to require it. I am taking zinc picolinate (other forms aren't bioavailable) which has been shown in more than one real clinical study to boost testosterone as much as 30-40%. If I can boost my levels with that I really don't want to do TRT (costly and can have side effects). I am going to get retested in a few months, so I'll let people know if it worked or not. If you are concerned about your levels a zinc picolinate supplement could be a good place to start. Hope this helps. Also, testosterone, so I read, is rarely the cause of ED, although it is often a cause of low libido. Robbnc1, how low was your level and did TRT help with ED? - > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. It ended up being a huge waste of time. Guest guest
Does tetosterone level increase naturally by time or at least tend to incline? and does PSSD lead to diabetes or trigger it some way? > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. Guest guest
About a year after coming off SSRI's my level was tested at 450 which of course the doctor considered normal. After living in PSSD hell for another 9 years I made another effort to get help, by this time my T had dropped to 345, again within " normal " range but this doctor had the good sense to know the " range " was flawed. I remember he said to me " I treat the symptoms, not the numbers " . Anyway, on TRT you have to learn how to manage it because you don't stay in a perfectly steady state, but when T, free T and estraiol are all in the " sweet spot " my erections are as hard as when I was 18 (almost 55 now). Think purple headed, nail driving , diamond scratching hard. Orgasam quality varies a little more but even the worst is far better anything I had in the decade following SSRI's. Most of the time libido is very good, sometimes it gets downright out of hand. I mean I can't get anything else done. My wife is just 34, that keeps me pretty busy but I still think about screwing everything that walks. Just to let you know my level is around 800 and I do injections of HCG twice a week also, and I too use Zinc but less for T boost and more to control estradiol. You might want go to an expert because unless you're 80 years old I can assure you 338 is low, very low and you are at greater risk of health problems from low T and probably high estradiol than you would ever be from side effects of T. I can give you links if you want them. The fact is,knowing what I know now, even without PSSD, I would probably be on TRT at my age. I continue to monitor this group mainly because I still want to see this problem exposed in the media and I really can't understand why thay hasn't happened yet. good luck to you and Steve Robb > > > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. Guest guest
'Think purple headed, nail driving, diamond scratching hard.' Wow! Mine used to throb with awesome power, go anywhere near it and it might explode - although I knew how to control it. And I used to have lots of fun with it, one lethal weapon for sure. Now it feels like a load of old cloth, kind of empty and nothing. Guest guest
Hi Rob, Sorry to be a pest again, but I have just one more question (for now, anyway): Did the TRT help with just the erectile function or numbness also? For me, numbness is the main issue. So, trying to see if I am a suitable candidate for TRT or not. Guest guest
Robb, I am glad that I read your post. I had my T level checked two weeks ago. I received a letter from my doctor with the results last week. It stated that my level was around 350, and he said that this was normal. I am 55. WTF is he talking about then! A while back, I got some soft tabs that were a mix of Viagra and Testosterone from the Charlotte Mens Clinic. They had a very positive effect, so maybe my T is lower than it should be. Can you explain more about TRT, and HCG? > > > > > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. It ended up being a huge waste of time. Guest guest
This kind of goes along with the orgasam, it varies according to how well tuned you are on the meds. At best it's just like old times and it may stay that way for days or weeks, at worst it's still a lot better than full blown PSSD. Guest guest
My symptoms were pretty much the same as most every guy in this group. Lower than normal libido, weak erection, great difficulty in finishing sex. As I have said, now libido and erection aren't much of a problem, pleasure and the ability to finish fluctuate a little more. But even a bad day is better than what I went through for 10 years or more. I don't think T is the only issue we have by any means, but I am certain it is one issue and it's a big one. And it's one that can be addressed. The reason others might not have had success with it is because it's a very complicated problem and takes some time to get right. That and the fact (and I'll say it again) that most doctors don't know what the hell they are doing when it comes to TRT. I cringe every time I read on here that someones doc told them their T was just fine at 300 and they accept that as gospel. Remember some of the doctors are the same ones that put you on SSRI's and that worked out well didn't it? A urologist put me on T (and I give him credit for doing that even though my T was in the " normal " range) but unfortunately he didn't know much else about it, and as a consequence after a brief initial improvement it really wasn't helping. After educating myself I was lucky enough to find a endo who had been a football player/steriod user in college and believe me he knew everything there was to know and was willing to do whatever it took. Everything I had learned in my research made perfect sense to him. He got me off Androgel and onto compounded T. He put me on HCG He gave me meds to control estradiol( I can get by with less harsh now) So once my level got high enough with estradiol under control then BAM! everything worked ! Now the problem is it's hard to stay like that, estradiol will go high ,you treat it and it goes too low. Low E will kill your sex life just as surely as high E. The hard part is knowing your own body and keeping as close to the " sweet spot " as you can. But it's worth it. I was lucky to find that endo and he has since taken a research position, but by and large urologists and endo's DON'T know much about TRT. You may be able to educate other docs as I have done but a much better approach would be to go to one of the few docs that really know this stuff. Chrisler in Michigan would probably be the best. best regards, Robb > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. Guest guest
Do you have those links to the importance of T. I am only 26 and I know my levels are far from normal. I do think it causes problems for me. I was just hoping that a zinc supplement might fix the problem as I really don't want to be on T the rest of my life. Once you start I get the impression you can never really stop. I thought perhaps I could naturally boost it high enough to not require TRT. We'll see, I have definitely seen some improvement in my mood since taking zinc. Perhaps that is due to an increase in T. I still have reduced sensation in my penis but erections strength has increased some and I can more predictably get hard. I am hoping if I take Zinc religiously that I will get back to normal. > > > > > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. It ended up being a huge waste of time. Guest guest
Good luck with the zinc, remember to take some copper too as zinc depletes copper. You can actually stop TRT treatment(body builders do it all the time) and most people return to pretreatment levels, others aren't so lucky. Most guys I know who have been low and then get it adjusted right are never gonna want to come off. The best link I can give you is another yahoo group. Those guys know more than me and its where I got most of my info. Only a few have low T due to SSRI's, but the treatments the same no matter the cause. hypnogonadism2 is the yahoo group also check out allthingsmale.com and go to the forum, this is the site of the foremost TRT doc in the country Robb > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. Guest guest
Hey Robb, I've been doing more and more research, and I think a lot of what you're saying makes a lot of sense. I'm personally very proactive, and I'm thinking of giving a serious try to working on my various hormonal levels. What I'm wondering though, is you mention that a lot of urologists/endos don't really know much about how to manage this stuff, so what kind of doctor should I look for? I'm based in New York City, so I imagine there must be tons of docs that can do this kind of stuff (HCG, etc.) but I don't really know where to start. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated! Glad you're feeling much, much better. Best, -M > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. Guest guest
Hey Robb, Where would I find a doctor who specializes in the kind of TRT/HCG stuff you've gotten involved in. I've had some of my hormone levels checks and some of them are a bit off. But what kind of doc specializes in this stuff. I'm based in New York City. I'm just not sure where to turn. Thanks for your help. Best, -M > > > > > > > > Well I finally got to go in to see the eurologist today. It ended up being a huge waste of time.
