Guest guest
side effects are emotional blunting and sexual side effects, i was put on for ocd. i'm wondering if anyone has made recovery? i was put on at age 14 and went off at age 19. i had a strong libido beforehand but now i have hardly anything. i feel like a lot was taken away from me and i don't feel like a real human being. i'm just wondering if there's anything left to hope for or this is who i have to accept i really am now. Guest guest
I have indeed been fully recovering. Took abt. 0.5-1 yr after quitting SSRIs. I am now taking Lamotrigin in order to prevent next depression phase. Did not occur now for more than 1.5 yrs (used to have depression episodes every 6-8 months). No side effetcs for me with that med and sexual functions and emotions 100 % back to normal. Keep up the faith! > > side effects are emotional blunting and sexual side effects, i was put on for ocd. i'm wondering if anyone has made recovery? i was put on at age 14 and went off at age 19. i had a strong libido beforehand but now i have hardly anything. i feel like a lot was taken away from me and i don't feel like a real human being. i'm just wondering if there's anything left to hope for or this is who i have to accept i really am now. >
Guest guest
o.kromer, could you please explain what kind of post ssri sexual dysfunction you had. did you have sexual dysfunction while taking the ssri AND after you stopped. what is abt exactly. never heard of it. do you think you recovered your function simply by waiting or did the drug (abt) have a heavy hand in your healing process. not to be too negative, but i am under the impression that most people, if not all, do not normalize to pre ssri/pssd functioning. hook it up with the info if you can. thanks kevin g p.s. i know this is really annoyingly old ground for everyone, but does anyone have a clue as to what percentage of people who have had pssd (in any form) recover fully. > > > > side effects are emotional blunting and sexual side effects, i was put on for ocd. i'm wondering if anyone has made recovery? i was put on at age 14 and went off at age 19. i had a strong libido beforehand but now i have hardly anything. i feel like a lot was taken away from me and i don't feel like a real human being. i'm just wondering if there's anything left to hope for or this is who i have to accept i really am now. > > >

So it's seems that most posts are people complaining of the issues and looking for reassurance while the people who have gained that have moved on with their lives. Guest guest
I have another question though, were you on SSRIs for a couple of years? I have been on them for a couple years and think that also may speculate how long it takes for me to recovery. I always had a libido on the medication but was never able to achieve orgasm, and it worries me that I was on it during a developmental part of my life. Though, I can remember feeling emotions strongly and having a libido when I first came on the medication, so I know at least I am capable of that. > > > > side effects are emotional blunting and sexual side effects, i was put on for ocd. i'm wondering if anyone has made recovery? i was put on at age 14 and went off at age 19. i had a strong libido beforehand but now i have hardly anything. i feel like a lot was taken away from me and i don't feel like a real human being. i'm just wondering if there's anything left to hope for or this is who i have to accept i really am now. > > >
Guest guest
It is a bit hard to believe that someone has fully recovered. I do want to belive that but why are you still here then? > > > > side effects are emotional blunting and sexual side effects, i was put on for ocd. i'm wondering if anyone has made recovery? i was put on at age 14 and went off at age 19. i had a strong libido beforehand but now i have hardly anything. i feel like a lot was taken away from me and i don't feel like a real human being. i'm just wondering if there's anything left to hope for or this is who i have to accept i really am now. > > >
Guest guest
I was on ssri for abt. 4 yrs, ½ year on, ½ year off. Sexual dysfunctions slightly stronger when off the meds.: erection difficult to impossible (and if so not as strong), orgasm very difficult and sexual desire and feeling while doing it much less than before. What I think helped me though (helped in particular when off the med) was trying to relax in sexual situations, trying to get the pressure away (please let it work now, please) and the embarrassment, talking to my partner about it (Yes kissing you is great, don't know though if sex will be working for me, let's just try and see). Maybe it is a learning/conditioning thing also: Not connecting sex to full frustration but getting as much out of it as is possible without putting pressure on yourself. So experiencing: well it is not as great as it used bit I'm getting something out of it. I think it took me some months after last quitting ssri for sexual functions and emotions to fully get back to normal. Thee new med works for me (lamotrigin – it is for prevention of depression episodes, not for curing them when they're there) so didn't have to take ssri for abt. 1.5 yrs now and everything fine – which indeed is a relieve. > > > > > > side effects are emotional blunting and sexual side effects, i was put on for ocd. i'm wondering if anyone has made recovery? i was put on at age 14 and went off at age 19. i had a strong libido beforehand but now i have hardly anything. i feel like a lot was taken away from me and i don't feel like a real human being. i'm just wondering if there's anything left to hope for or this is who i have to accept i really am now. > > > > > >
