Guest guest
Hello everybody, With our dear moderator and many others enjoying their last vacation of the year 2006,I just decided to share my views about .. " What they don't teach us in Medical college.. " After seeing, some of our loving teachers practise medicine, selflessly and with dedication, all thru the 9 long years, when we were in college, in Sewagram,it comes as a rude shock, when we all enter private practise and try and apply their style of practise....and learn, it is a mean jungle out there... Although,it never is our intention to fleece any patient, who walks into our consulting chamber, but with so much of other parallel branches of medicine, depending on us,we need to sadly end up,doing the same.. I don't know, how many of us all out there, feel the pressure..in a private practise .....but for a small field like ours..in Ophthalmology,we tend to have immense .as well.. Today, before I begin my day...I have to chart out ....that I have got to refer, at least ,a decent X number of patients to the optician's shop for glasses, lenses and sunglasses...as he needs to keep his business going,...........prescribe atleast X number of topical and oral medications,to keep the Pharmacy running......................send X number of cases to the diagnostic places, like our Visual Field centre, the microbiology centre and the X-ray dept...to give our share of business,.......... and in the end also post an X number of cases, each alternate days in theatre... to maintain the business for the hospital...SOMETHING,WHICH OUR MEDICAL COLLEGE, NEVER TAUGHT US... Meaning, instead of seeing the patient,on the whole,we are, most of the times, reduced to seeing him/her as a cash generating consumer... Is there any ways,we can balance this aspect, and end up doing fair practise,in today's money money world,is my question..where the media and the patients r always quick to comment on the scenario of .....Doctors in the pvt profession looting patients.... Comments please.. Shyam(84)
