Toddler Formula? (from NT book)

Hi All,

I'm new to the group and hope you can help me out - would greatly

appreciate it!

I'm not sure how sensitive my 22 month old daughter is to dairy and

egg whites, but we've had episodes before where she's had rashes

(eczema and a white pimply dot one) following periods where she's

consumed a lot of either one. And even though we've eliminated all

milk from her diet, she still has a little bit of eczema on her

torso. (We have not eliminated cheese completely from her diet.)

So, I guess the first question is, does she need testing? We've

been going to a naturopathic physician, who is also a friend, and

she has not suggested any testing as of yet, just

elimination/substitution in the hopes DD will grow out of it and try

again in a few months. I'm worried now b/c we seem to have

eliminated everything " healthy " from her diet. (Physician is not a

NN adherent.)

Some background. I reluctantly weaned her at 14 months (long story

for another time). We first tried straight raw milk - diarrhea and

pimply white-headed rash resulted within a week. Then we moved to

store bought organic toddler formula, which she tolerated for a few

months before getting some eczema (after a particularly heavy week

of formula drinking). Now we're down to rice and almond milks

(supplemented with flax seed oil, acidophilus and rice protein

powder). I'm trying to avoid soybean milk given the issues

associated with it covered in NT.

As you can see, we've been moving more and more to the processed end

of the spectrum! And after more carefully reading the section on

baby feeding in Nourishing Traditions, I see how wrong I've been! I

feel horrible for having fed her this formula for months.

So, despite her age, I'm thinking of trying her on the Infant

Formula recipe in Nourishing Traditions - it includes raw milk, but

with many other supplements, including gelatin, which is supposed to

aid her digestion of the milk.

So for the second set of questions. Can anyone who's had any

experience with this home-made formula tell me: 1) did it work for

your child, esp. if they were sensitive to straight raw milk before

and 2) is this formulation ok for a 22 month old, as opposed to an

infant? I realize there is a non-dairy formula in NT, but my

daughter is a VERY picky eater who likes her milk white, so I'm

trying to avoid going the beef formula route. Also, I can't get

goat milk where I am, so that's one substitute I can't make. (We

only have the ultrapasteurized, conventional goat milk at our local

store.)

I'm trying to gather as much info as I can before proceeding, for

fear of triggering another episode of skin rashes (and at its worst,

diarrhea).

Much thanks for any insight anyone can give me!

P.S. Dh and I are of Asian descent. As is common amongst people of

our ethnicity, I'm lactose intolerant, but he isn't. I've also

recently done an allergy panel (skin testing) and there isn't

anything I'm not allergic to in this world! Except the panel didn't

really include food, so I can't give any more info on me. Although

I do eat eggs all the time and haven't noticed any reactions.
