Guest guest
Judy - When I was in high school my allowance was $100 a week. I formed relationships with Weiser's bookstore in New York (it was way cool in the 70s), Yes! Bookstore in Washington DC and the Vedanta Center in California. I would order books from all over the world - most notably India and China - Wei Wu Wei favorite British/Chinese author. I studied the Bhagavad Gita, Tao, Patanjali's aphorisms, all of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda's works and became a disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda who wrote Autobiography of a Yogi. I also loved Christian Mysticism - the Philokalia, Dark Night of the Soul, Practice the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence - I got five translations and wrote my own this book was/is so powerful for me. Somewhere in here I followed Ram Dass when he was around me geographically. I still have vivid memories of all those moments. I studied with Rammurti Mishra (one of the boys from India) in the 70's in Babson Park. I then followed him and lived at his ashram in Monroe, New York. This experience was profound. He often used me to do chakra work demonstrations so I received so much shaktipat. There I met some of the other boys from India. Later, came home to Redington Beach and he just so happened to open an ashram .5 miles down the same road that I lived on several months later - coincidence I'm sure!!!!! I lived at Shangri-La Health Institute and taught yoga there in Bonita Springs in the 70s and learned to become a raw food vegan which I have recently returned to. There I met the author of athan Livingston Seagull. But I was more interested in another author Ken Keyes and studied those works intensively - Handbook to Higher Consciousness - I still touch base with this work now. Did A Course In Miracles from 79 to late 80s. Got lost in the workin world - didn't feel the need to invest in myself spiritually. And now with the " loss " of what I thought was a life time partner and the sleep " deaths " of two friends in my bible study group this year - here I am - Pain calls me back to the work. Now I oscillate between A Course in Miracles, Eckardt Tolle's Power of Now, and Byron 's Loving What Is and the work. I also have one of the most extensive healing/music cd collections this side of the Mississippi! - right now listening to fabulous Buddhist chanting with a Western beat - lovely (Chants to Awaken the Buddhist Heart by Lama Surya Das) While only the work was able to really crack my shell, I think every single experience in my life prepared me for this moment with the work. When it comes to spirituality and spiritual relationships I have no trouble listening to my heart. I simply ask for help, really want help and miracles happen - like that teleconference where only 7 people were online so I got to be selected to do the work with Byron - wow what a nice gift. Thanks for asking Judy - you really made me see how blessed my life truly is and continues to be. Jan
