Guest guest
Does anyone know of a good mail order/web site to buy nuts? The prices at WF's are outrageous and Trader Joes here does not sell raw nuts. Phil

Guest guest
Speaking of nuts and Trader Joe's. Does anyone's Trader Joe's still carry hazelnut and walnut meal? Mine discontinued it because it wasn't selling. Have been getting almond meal they kept in stock but it's nowhere near as tasty. Almond meal spot was empty today too. I don't know about hazelnut, but I'd be awfully leery about getting walnut meal since walnuts are heavily skewed towards PUFA and so prone to going rancid. -

Do you soak them first? I've been wondering how much work it would be to make soaked almond flour... -
Guest guest
, Do you know which are the healthiest nuts, for those who don't want to give them up? By this I mean nuts with more monounsaturated and saturated fats. jafa --- Idol <Idol@...> wrote: > Wanita- > > >Speaking of nuts and Trader Joe's. Guest guest
I prefer brazil nuts, as they have the most Saturated fat of any nut besides coconut. If I remember they are about 1/3 saturated, 1/3 mono, and 1/3 omega 3 fat. I get organic ones and soak them in brine for 24 hours in warm water (imagine the temp in brazil), then I chop them in 1/2 , sprinkle with a little salt (they don't get very salty from the brine) and put them in the oven for ~12 hours at 145 and store them in the fridge afterward. They taste fantastic, very meaty and they remind me of turkey. They are grown in the fertile rainforests, and have extremely high amounts of selenium so I would caution against consuming them too often in large amounts. 1 oz of nuts has about %780 RDA of selenium! They are also the cheapest organic nut at my local food Co-op, costing only like $4.80 a pound. > > > Wanita- > > > > >Speaking of nuts and Trader Joe's. Guest guest
here is one source for raw almonds http://www.organicpastures.com/products_almonds.html there are other sources listed in the WAPF shopping guide you can get a WAPF shopping guide for a dollar here http://www.westonaprice.org/membership/orderform.html better yet, join WAPF and get one for free along with their great quarterly journal! http://www.westonaprice.org/membership/index.html > > I think someone asked this questions before, but I can't seem to find it. I'm sorry if I'm repeating. What is the best place to find raw organic almonds and other nuts? And I don't mean FDA definition raw, but truly untreated, unfumigated, unprocessed fresh almonds and other nuts. Here in TX we have plenty of pecans and that's about it. > > Thanks, > Elena >
