Guest guest
We moved to a new house and in the concrete of the back patio is a brick-lined square that i'm told is a fire pit. I have a lot of suet i'd like to render (stinky) and i'd like to make a bunch of lard too. I was thinking on hot days it would be nice to take this business out of the kitchen. Anyone cook over a wood fire in their backyard? I looked at outdoor fireplaces and was aghast at the prices. Do i just throw an iron grate over the thing? Thanks for any help, Elaine

But yeah, if you have any spot where the fire won't spread and burn something down, you can cook there. All kinds of goodies! They sell grates though, that you can prop up on rocks or firebricks or whatever. You can also get a cheap propane ring and a tank of propane, which is easier for long slow cooking. Open fires are still legal where I'm at, but they aren't in a lot of places. Heidi Jean
