Guest guest
OMG! Are you getting real Naturethroid without any lactose? Or are they just putting the Naturethroid name on the old TCL Thyroid USP? This is not unlike a discussion I had with a shoe salesman the other day. I mentioned that I used to be able to buy a certain size and style of Old Maine Trotters and have them fit just right. Then Trotters got bought out by Green and the shoes did not fit me anymore. It seems that Green just bought the name, not the lasts and not the craftsmen. There oughtta be a law! If you are selfpay, Walgreens is one of the more expensive pharmacies. Bobo Amerigo wrote: Thanks, Jan.Walgreen's said they would order it and that I should receive itMonday. This was the result of many phone cons and visits. Sigh.I need to try something different for T4 because taking Levoxyl hasbeen full of ups and downs. Each prescription refill varied from theone before. (I use my desiccated thyroid to adjust up or down.) In the area of thyroid med trivia, maybe you already know this, butWestern Labs doesn't make Nature-throid, which I have been purchasingdirectly from the doc. Western Labs had tried to foist a big priceincrease on Dr. B. He did some investigation, and found that the manufacturer is Time-Capin New York. Minimum direct purchase is 5 million pills (!), so now hegets the med from a distributor -- but not Western Labs.Thank you.In Texas_Thyroid_Groups , Jan wrote:>> Unithroid is still being made. Guest guest
CVS quit carrying Unithroid some time ago. The pharmacies like the Sandoz because of the 26 month shelf life.Bobo Amerigo wrote: >I tried CVS, but they had only Sandoz. Guest guest
Qualitest/Timecap has a checkered history of recalls, although I have never seen one for the Thyroid USP. I suspect that Western could not keep up with the demand and did not want to go through the modernization process that Forest did some time ago. Do keep us posted as to how you do on the new product. Bio-Tech still lists BioThroid on their site. Maybe there is some hope that it will be back. . . .one of these days. A couple of ladies in the group use dessicated thyroid compounded in olive oil capsules. And there is a compounding pharmacy in Kirbyville that makes a desiccated thyroid in a capsule with only microcrystalline cellulose as a filler, much like BioThroid. So there are other choices, just not cheap ones. Bobo Amerigo wrote: Dr. B said that the insert, and the bottle, were exactly the same, ashe purchased as Nature-throid from Western Labs.He said the insert cited the same hypoalergenic fillers as Nature-throid.So what does it all mean? Guest guest
Did they have access to both the Unithroid and the Lannett generic? Or did you ask? Was Walgreens unable to get it for you or did you just find it cheaper at Costco?Bobo Amerigo wrote: Happy to report that Costco order the .2mg Unithroid for me and Istarted it last night. Guest guest
If you want to keep that larger bottle of pills fresh, I would suggest that you transfer 2-4 weeks worth of pills into a second smaller bottle and work out of that bottle so you are not opening your main stash and exposing it to air every day. Air and moisture cause all thyroid meds to lose potency, especially in a humid place like Houston.Bobo Amerigo wrote: I just asked about Unithroid. Cost-wise, my insurance wouldn't let me have 100, which is what wasprescribed. And even on a per-30-pills basis, my insurance was acouple dollars more costly than paying for it myself. I liked that theCostco clerk figured that out without my asking.Walgreens said they would order it, but in fact did nothing. Since I spend far too much time at Costco as it is, :-) I'll betransferring my metformin prescription there as well.I've been on the Unithroid for about 4 days now. Some of the deepsleepiness seems to be abating. Apparently last month's Levoxyl wasway subpotent. Thanks for all the pointers. Guest guest
I too have Caremark. For me, they were the same cost for ,mail order as Costco. Since spend WAY too much time at Costco too, I just Kept my prescription there. Lynn Costco scores MANY points in my book! At 03:35 PM 4/29/2006, you wrote: Costco scores a point! I hate using a pharmacy without a drive-through, especially when I am sick. But if I were selfpay, I would probably use Costco. I like mailorder even better. .. . . I was afraid I was going to have to use Costco and self-pay when my copays went over the amount of the retail cost of both the Armour and the Lannett. But I had one refill on the Lannett at the Caremark mail service and went ahead and ordered it. Bingo! Instead of the $20 copay, they charged me $19.20, which was cheaper than what Costco had quoted me. So then I ordered the Armour refill and got my 360 60 mg pills for $44.20 instead of the $80 brand name copay. No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
