Most docs just do not understand hypothyroidism. He needs to keep looking for a doc who will treat him. I do not have the link handy, but the AACE says that anyone with a TSH over 3 and symptoms should be treated. I don't know what his health care provisions are, but if he is able to see Dr. Ozan, he will be treated. ~*lindy of texas*~ wrote: HI ya'll, have a question........you know how the normal range for thyroid was changed from the 0.5-5.0 to0.3-3.0 ?? (our labs still use the 5 range.)well for me my thyroid was in the 4 range for years while I was sufferingmany

symptoms. finally when it hit 9.6 they took action. so now I am downin the 2 range and doing wonderful. (I take armour 90mg).ok............... my question is.............. my hubby had his thyroidchecked a few months ago, its in the 4 range, and the DR said its normaldont worry about it.but he's starting to suffer some of the symptoms I did when mine hit 4.esp. the feet and hands freezing, and being tired. since being on armour Idont have that anymore..thank goodness...I use to freeze in 95 temps.what I want to know, is the thyroid different in males vs females ?? is thechart different for males ?? I feel like hubby would be better if he toowas lower than that 4. but his DRs thinks we're nuts and wont listen.I think what they consider normal may not be normal for him, just as whatthey said was normal for me, was NOT really normal for me.my mother is at a 1.8 and feels fantastic. but

she only has half a thyroidnow...the other half was surgically removed.Lin

About 6-8 months ago someone put a copy of "National Board of Endocrinology" statement in 199? about changing the range to 0.3-3.0. I cannot remember the year, naturally, but if you could get a copy of this to show your doctor or get another doctor, it might help. My neuro. was saying that in his experience the range shouldn't exceed 3.0. I told him that was official, not just his impression. He was surprised so I guess everybody is not up to date. Reasonable to assume these days of mass info. Good luck. isnt Dr Ozan the one on Bandera Rd ??

My hubyy works on Bandera rd and that might be easier for him to go there to

be treated. he has started felling tired, by wed he's comeing home tired,

by friday he comes home so exhausted he lays down at 6pm and sleep thrru the

night misses dinner.

he was not like this before, he does have high blood pressure.. and takes

meds for that but he has the freezing spells, and his hands and feet are

always cold.

I use to freeze all the time, feet like ice and was afraid to shake hands

with people because of cold hands. but since being on armour, I dont have

any of that anymore.

and now he's doing it. the DR he last saw would not give us the test

results, we had to ask 3 times while in the offie and then finally he snaps

and says 4. so we dont know if its 4.0, 4.5 or what. we just know in the 4

range.

I know when I hit 4 I was having some problems. and I dont want him to

suffer like I did. we dont know any men with thyroid problems, so we dont

know if its the same for everyone, i=or if its a bit different from male to

female.

but I want him to get treatment before its too late.

if you find that link, could you send it to me ?? thanks.

Lin

Are you referring to the NACB guidelines (National Association of

Clinical Biochemistry)? The NACB is the Academy for the AACC

(American Association for Clinical Chemistry).

From their 2002 guidelines:

" In the future, it is likely that the upper limit of the serum TSH

euthyroid reference range will be reduced to 2.5 mIU/L because >95% of

rigorously screened normal euthyroid volunteers have serum TSH values

between 0.4 and 2.5 mIU/L. "
