HCA-Columbia is the company who owns the hospital in question. HCA-

Columbia is owned by Sen. Frist's family. Sen Frist also owns quite

a bit of stock in the company.

HCA-Columbia has been cited in several lawsuits as defendants as well.

The connect is to the Tort Reform legislation being pushed through

Congress. It would cap pay outs by defendants of malpractice. One

of those who would benefit from this are the Hospitals named in

litigation.

The issue regarding Malpractice Insurance has caps on pay out, so it

does not cover the full costs of judgements.

I hope this answers the questions for you,

> I read the article and saw a story that's been in some of the

women's magazines over the years. Nothing about Frist or links to him

or his family. I thought he was in the health care industry; with a

lawsuit I beleive it's the insurance carrier that will ultimately

have to pay any damages. What's the connection?

Most large businesses like this self-insure. Especially if they are

following poor practice and the insurance companies want to charge a

lot.... also, if they were not exercising reasonable diligence to

prevent claims (that is if the malpractice was wilful, flagrant, and

encouraged by HCA policies) the insurance companies don't have to pay.

Insurance covers making mistakes, not being wildly out of control.

Apparently Dr. Frist has some personal thoughts as to the cause of the

claims.

Grab some Pepto Bismol and SWIG! Then have a glass of red wine ...

BTW you can make GREAT butter pecan cookies without the gluten, in case of

emergencies.

I've had my v-mix for about 2 or 3 months and this morning DH says to me "by the way, I know how much that Vitamix machine was". Apparently he saw the -Sonoma catalog. whoops. Good thing I use it all the time and it's not just sitting on the counter collecting dust!! I think he might have been miffed in that case, as it is, he just wanted to give me a hard time. :))
