Guest guest
Hey what's good, girls and boys? Anyone got the 411 on what the deal is with all the toxic crap in all the thyroid supplements? I was considering the possibility that I might have a little *hypo*thyroid-- I have a need for coffee that's persisting long after the withdrawals left, I gained some fat after dropping coffee, too, I have no " moons " on any fingers except the tiniest portion on one of my thumbs, etc. Also, I was reading what Ray Peat wrote on Chapter Leaders about thyroid stimulants and vitamin A going hand in hand, and one being harmful without the other (He noted that traditional folks eating the whole animal would eat one thyroid for every liver). So, my thought was to get a glandular or something-- basically, a tiny bit of thyroid gland every day and I would start eating liver again. I just wanted something moderate. However, I went to Whole Foods and Vitamin Shoppe and everything I found, in particular every thing that actually had glandulars in it, had other junk that made me drop the idea of using it. One of them included titanium dioxide for color, which I've heard is carcinogenic but haven't looked into, but most notably, most of them have high amounts of manganese in them. One of the products I found had 115% of the RDA of manganese, but only 8% of the RDA of copper! Since I'm not monitoring my intake of these in the rest of my diet, it seems to me extremely unwise to take anything that supplies more than say, 50% RDA of manganese total from all supplements, especially if not accompanied by an *extra* dose of copper. It seems to me really dangerous to have these high amounts of manganese in over-the-counter supplements. I'm sure the manufacturers know that many people generally take higher than the recommended dose when the supplement is over-the-counter. I'm concerned about manganese from the perspective of Mark Purdey's research. Are there any " clean " glandulars out there? Chris
