Guest guest
Kay, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm familiar with what you wrote and would suspect that such a message would be treated as an attachment and removed by the server before going to the list. The one post in question was definitely a virus infected email message that went to some people on the list...personally I suspect that some of these viruses may comb through your email files pulling out all the email addresses it can find and then sending the virus to all of those addresses. I know viruses do so from the address book, but suspect that some virus programs may glean addresses from all files including your deleted and sent files, too. Guest guest
Dear Ray and Rob and group: Hope there are no stowaways with my email here, Norton says ok, but we all have to let each other know. I am writing to ask if you might have the " badtrans " virus in text, non-executable form, as I would like to study it (computer analyst here). Very best wishes for the holidays, . ---------- Individual e-post from: Dr. L. D. Guest guest
No, the McAfee program caught it and I deleted it. Ray

Guest guest
Hi . I deleted all the copies I was sent, but the next one I get I¹ll send you the code, text only file. Believe me, I¹ll get another. Perils of belonging to so many newsgroups. : ) I have a Mac, so it¹s easy (and safe) for me to mess with the live bugs. : ) Your idea of fun is like mine. LOL. Some people never truly delete their caches/files, and so if it¹s in there, these new bugs will find them. FYI- Symantec has a blow-by-blow description of the actions of these bugs, and exactly how they do what they do. Interesting reading. <http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.badtrans.bmm (DOT) h tml> Robbie in FL
Guest guest
Hi Robbie and all here, and Happy Holiday Do backchannel (private email) any interests in analyzing, understanding the " bug. " I will really appreciate that. I had the text of a prior one. I am interested because before I went on (pain) disability I was a Staff Analyst and Programmer, and also a Script designer. People often do not perceive the virus as code, but I can understand because they do feel it " infects " etc.. Your kind response is appreciated. Voices on the Net can differ so. By the way, a search with Google or another 'search engine 'produces plenty of websites where the code is partially shown (in text) and analyzed, but for some reason I have not been able to find the whole thing even though I received of course the viris from elsewhere. Also, to show the scope, in a few days, a folder I set up to catch the word " virus " has 1140 entries (some but relatively a few are about eg. zoster virus, which seems to be the cause of physical pain of many types, etc.). It is a shame someone pulled this prank, it appears in November but here it is all over the world for the holidays. On the great up-side of computer email , thank goodness for those hours when those of us with pain disabilities can get to the computer and network. Sending you and the e-list the very warmest personal regards, . On the Net since early 1960's. Background email anytime, ask me whatever, if I know. ----- Individual e-post from: Dr. L. D.
