Turns out that my kefir grains did survive the tangerine juice and came back

to life after about 5 days. I've got a nice ferment going now with

excellent fizz.

Thanks again for your help.

Yay! I put some in some grape juice a few days ago, and

it's FINALLY fizzing. Sometimes it just takes awhile, I guess.

After I got the first responses to my question I put some active milk kefir

grains in a fresh peach mash and stuck the bottle right next to my seemingly

dead orange kefir. By the next morning the peach pulp was _alive_. Took me

about 10 minutes to allow enough off gassing so that my ceiling didn't end

up looking like yours. The orange was just beginning to grow after 5 days

and the peach was hot after less than 24 hours.

The peach smells delicious, too.

Just peachy! So far the molasses is the fastest for

me, grape and honey are the slowest. Peach sounds

delish though. I guess it's good to remember that

fruits have all kinds of defense mechanisms built

in. Peaches go bad really fast: tangerines take

awhile.
