Re: Labs and a Question

I am not taking any ATDs at this time. I am trying to use natural methods. Currently I am using additional supplements. If you look at my labs, my T3 And T4 have come done a tiny bit since I started them in Nov.

I do not have any of the hyperT heart symptoms. When I went into the dr in Nov I was having mostly hypoT symptoms. Most of my thyroid related symptoms have improved since Nov. also.

I have not had an uptake scan. I have had two sonograms. I do have one nodule. My dr wants to watch it to see if it is growing, shrinking, or changing in anyway. After researching, I was concerned with this approach. The dr went ahead and did another sono just to check for me and to settle me a bit. There were no changes. The sono's were done approx 5 weeks apart. I have read that with blood work and a sonogram you can find out the same info as you get from a scan. After a long in depth discussion (that I won't go into right now) I am willing to "wait and watch" with my dr.

Supplements - L-Carnitine, Vitamin B1, Magnesium. And yes my multi is a soy based supplement. I am also cutting back on dairy, sugar, and iodine.

I don't have any heart symptoms right now. My dr did try to get me on a beta blocker for prevention, but they caused a racing heart and palpitations. I took myself off those within four days. And I WILL NOT go back on them unless I have a problem with my heart FIRST.

And I am keeping an open mind on the ATD's if the supplements don't work out for me. Can't blame me for trying.

And I am studying the hyperT symptoms. So I will be aware if/when I start to flare up. Then I can get immediate treatment. I am aware of the dangers of going untreated during a flare up.

Thank you so much for your concern.

Kim

If you are not on any thyroid meds, you may be slightly hyper. Are you having hyper symptoms? Or do you have them off and on? Do you have any nodules? Have you had an uptake scan? Kim wrote: Ok, the Looooooooooooooooooooooong Wait is finally over. FYI, I got these results from the lab. I have not been in to see my dr since these results came in. I am to call and set an appt after results cam in. I'll be calling in on Monday. Here is my lab history with current results....11-10-05 T3 uptake 36H (22-35%)T4, Total 15.3H (4.5-12.5)Free T4 index (T7) 5.5H (1.4-3.8)TSH <.01L (no range given)12-1-05TPO 11 (<35)1-27-06T3 uptake 31.96

Is it possible that the antibody counts could have been higher in Nov. when the first labs were drawn? (I know you guys are not drs and any reponses are just your own opinions. But it doesn't hurt to ask.) Any help is appreciated. Thanks bunches in advance.Kim M.

In November, your T3 levels were not measured at all. T3 Uptake measures thyroid binding proteins, not T3 levels. It is very hard to say whether or not your levels have come down, because, even where you have the same test, the ranges are different, and those older tests are not even close to being accurate. I would note that while your Free T4 Index test is over range, the more accurate Free T4 direct is in range. And your Free T3 direct is just slightly over range. This is why you have no symptoms. What kind of natural supplements are you using? Soy? other

goiterogens? green tea? I think there is one other person on this board who has managed her hyper with supplements. I would just caution you to watch your levels and symptoms very closely and be prepared to use ATDs if your gland decides to take off. Someone just posted on About Thyroid about a friend who died from inadequately treated hyper. I would also keep some beta blockers on hand if you are not already on them, and do not hesitate to go to the emergency room right away if you become symptomatic. kkmwn@... wrote: I am not

Relax. Yahoo! Mail virus scanning helps detect nasty viruses!

Jan, I was going through some old posts and I came accross this one.

Thanks for the reply.

That is interesting to know about the different labs and what they

actually read. Thanks for the input on where my levels are too.

Also, I am symptomatic. Most of my symptoms are hypo-type symptoms.

Slightly over-weight, dry skin dry hair, constant fatigue(I know this

can also be for hypers), low end bp, low body temp, cold all the

time. There were more. Most of these symptoms have gotten better.

Since I have had improvement of symptoms from targeting suppression

of the thyroid, then I do believe it is from hyperthyroidism.

Although it may be mild hyperthyroidism. And I do believe the

underlying cause of this case of hyperthyroidism is from graves

disease. I say this because I have severe itching and constant spots

on my shins (pretibial myexedema?) and tired, sore, puffy, dry eyes

(GO/TED?). With all this involvement, plus that my labs are not what

anyone has referred to as ideal, and the fact that I do have the TSI

antibody, I think was is going on is a very mild case of graves

disease.

Please, respond. As I want to know what all the people " in the know "

think about my situation.

Again, thanks for the reply. And sorry it took so ling for me to

find it.
