Guest guest Posted September 30, 2005 Report Share Posted September 30, 2005 hi all, has anyone every done this? i quickly googled it and was alarmed by saftey warnings on a few web sites. basically warnings about toxic bacterial growth if not done properly. anyhow, thought it would be best to check w/ this group before i give up! the heirloom tomatoes here in minnesota are just so delicious, thought it would be nice to can some for the winter! thanks! lisa Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

She usually made enough for most of the year. We never got sick. Get a book from the library on how to do it. Tomatoes don't need to be canned using a pressure cooker, but you can do them that way. Just make sure you sterilize the jars in boiling water long enough and make sure the seal on the jars is tight before you put them into storage.
