If you go to the Broda website, you can order a tape of a presentation he made for a conference. I think it may contain most of the info that would be of interest to your PCP.rgrprop wrote: Went to see my pcp after a year. Last April '05 I was in bad shape, had just started my Armour and other meds in Feb/Mar and had been through a very rough patch of crashing. Couldn't get up to fix my own food for several weeks. I had to go see her back then to get my clonazepam prescription renewed, and I had to crawl from my chair onto the floor to talk, I was so weak. She was very concerned. I told her I was committed to the new regimen on Armour and other meds and I had accepted that it was going to take a

long time to recover. She couldn't believe I was willing to put up with a recovery period of several years, if necessary. But she admitted she didn't know what else to do for me, since my Levoxly had failed and she was not familiar with Armour or alternative regimens to the syn T4. So she wished me the best, and I told her I'd check back in later in the year. My gall bladder attacks and surgery in Nov. delayed that, but I went back in today with my DH. She was very pleased to see me so much better, and told my DH, "you're getting your wife back!." She seemed very interested in and supportive of what I was doing. She also seemed convinced that since I was running across so many other folks who had been going through what I had been going through, and weren't getting better, until they got on Armour and other supportive meds, that the regimen was good. She certainly loved my lipid panel, and didn't say anything about my

low .3 TSH. (To her credit, she did admit that she knew that some people needed their TSH supressed to feel better.) She was amazed that an increase in progesterone had stopped my vaginal discharge that we had been trying to stop for years. We talked a bit about my iron utilization issues and she gave me info on the fecal occult blood tests so I can get them and check for bleeding. Her parting words were, "I wish your doc (Dr. ) would write a paper on this." So "one doc at a time" we might be winning some of them over about the TSH and Armour issues. I am SO relieved to have her back in my corner again, as she has been so good about all my other health issues over the last 7 years, is so accessible and responsive, and I didn't want to have to be in any conflict with her over my TSH values and the meds I was taking. Happy, happy. -- Sara

Maybe the one on fertility just did not catch my eye, as that is of little interest to me.rgrprop wrote: hmmm...well, they were both in the 2000 meeting list. I will call and ask the BB folks.> >> > If you go to the Broda website, you can order a tape of a > presentation he made for a

They are both old. Put the info in the two together and you a

better picture. He does many things more since that point in time.

Yes, he needs to write.

Went to TMA and the hormone presentation was in the middle of the

PSYCH CME tract. We are not crazy!

He told me that not writing books was one of the things he does to stay below the radar of the conservative medical community. Or did he just mean no books directed at patients?smr79410 wrote: They are both old. Put the info in the two together and you a better picture. He does many things more since that point in time. So, tell us about the hormone presentation. I like hormones. I know you are not crazy, and it does not matter what the rest of those folks think. . . .smr79410 wrote: Went to TMA and the hormone presentation was in the middle of the PSYCH CME tract. We are not crazy!

He means that we are writing research, evidenced based on the patient population

that we have

seen. One of the valid comments by many is that the kind of work that is often

done with patients

such as you and me, will never be a part of ramdomized large studies. That

said, there is good

solid reporting that can be done using small N analysis and non-parametric

statistics supported by

an extensive review of the literature that related specifically to specific

treatment plans. I

have over 27 hours of graduate level stats including courses in small N

analysis, survival

analysis and non-parametric statistics. All of this just takes so much time to

digest and

produce. If you do solid research and solid reporting, it is hard to shoot

darts even if you

don't agree with the theory. By the way, holes, darts, bullets are being shot

at the WHI on

estrogen and progesterone. The study has arguable results and the design of the

study is flawed.

Any writing would be directed at publication in peer reviewed literature, not

the lay press. The

lay press is where too much negative attention is directed. Good research, well

written, peer

reviewed. It is hard to beat. And we all know that junk gets published all the

time.

Well, I am not sure it would be appropriate to post a summary of

that talk on this board. I think we have several posters who see

that doc and I certainly would not want to say anything that could

be construed as negative about any physician.

Thanks, Sharon. I will look forward to getting and listening to the

tapes, and then I'll pass on to my pcp.

Is DH speaking again any time soon? Can you reveal where, when and the

topic(s)?

Yes, please, write, write, write!! (Jere is saying " please " also.)

We are beginning a couple of presentations now. I am not taking any

classroom classes on a couple of online courses this fall. So I

have a bit more time to run to the med school library. The

Conference gave us tons of additional literature out there to

review. The next thing on his list is trying to get to the American

Academy of Family Practice fall conference. He is currently has

diplomat status and he will become a fellow in the academy. He just

has to go there and pick up the award. Cool!
