Guest guest
Jan, I made a boo boo and real question is here: On the armour vs levoxy/cytomel...how can they get the right ratio if it’s all-in-one for the armour? I guess that would be my biggest concern..if I know 100 mcg of T4 is good and say 12.5 of T3 can that be done somehow? This is good info for me to discuss at the endo tomorrow and any help is much appreciated!!!! Thanks Sue

Guest guest
Sue - The ratios in Armour are close to human ratios - a little heavier on the T3. If you find you need something other than that ratio, you can add a little T4 or T3 separately, as Steph was talking about. I suspect you won't get far with the endo and Armour - they generally don't like it. If you do, please let us know. If my endo ever fires me over my Armour consumption, I might need her. :)Betsy Jan, I made a boo boo and real question is here: On the armour vs levoxy/cytomel...how can they get the right ratio if it's all-in-one for the armour? Guest guest
Hi Betsy, THANK YOU for the info—how would you add the T4 or T3..would it have to be synthetic, then? Also, why would an endo NOT prescribe Armour if it’s better for us? Now I am really lost! Guest guest
Yes, if you want to tweak the ratios by adding one or the other, I think the only option is synthetic. Jan would know more, and she's doing this. The thing about endos is that they don't think it's better for you. My endo just kind of rolled his eyes when he found out I was taking it (prescribed by Dr. R). His only comment was that it's hard to adjust the dose (as he pointed to that pretty, multi-colored chart of Synthroid pills). Perhaps he's never heard of adding a bit of Levoxyl or Cytomel. Who knows? Hi Betsy, THANK YOU for the info—how would you add the T4 or T3..would it have to be synthetic, then? Also, why would an endo NOT prescribe Armour if it's better for us? Guest guest
I hear ya on that one! Most doctors really can only treat the numbers – they are at the mercy of the insurance companies and if they treat more than mininally required can get “busted.” I lost a good doctor many years ago who just quit rather than play the insurance game... Guest guest
I went to Dr. Fetchik years ago. She is a nice lady, but only looked at the TSH. She took me off of armour, would not prescribe anything if my TSH was in normal limits. Maybe she has changed.
Guest guest
Some of us take a combination of Armour and synthetic T4. I am on 255 mg of Armour plus 62.5 mcg of Lannett levothyroxine. That gives me 38.25 mcg of T3 and 223.5 mcg of T4. There are some folks who need more T3 than is found in straight Armour. They take Armour plus Cytomel. jytdtp wrote: Jan, I made a boo boo and real question is here:On the armour vs levoxy/cytomel...how can they get the right ratio if it’s all-in-one for the armour? Guest guest
Hi Jan — you are amazing! Thank you for all the info! Man, I guess I am in a “fog” and need mine adjusted cuz I am having trouble keeping it all straight. Are you in the medical field? Thanks again... It all helps. Guest guest
With Armour, it is actually possible to adjust the T3 to a finer tolerance than it is with Cytomel. The smallest dose of Cytomel is 5 mcg. The 15 mg dose of Armour contains just 9.5 mcg of T4 and 2.25 mcg of T3. Guest guest
I think Fetchik and her partner (Akright?) both Rx Armour. But you don't need an endo all the time, just when it is time for RAI. Any doc can order sonograms and even fnas. I am going to have my sonogram in Lubbock this time, since my idiot internist no longer thinks it is "medically necessary." Guest guest
Jan, what is RAI? Is that the radioactive uptake scan? And yes, Fetchick is in the same office with Akright and she does Rx T3... She’s wonderful! Thanks , Sue I think Fetchik and her partner (Akright?) both Rx Armour.

Guest guest
I list docs who Rx Armour and I also list docs who Rx synthetic T3. I keep them separated on the list. Just because a doc will Rx one does not mean they will Rx the other. I do not bother listing docs who will Rx only synthetic T4. I also pay attention to whether or not a doc keeps folks adequately medicated. I have deleted docs who will not treat below a TSH of 1.0 (That is why Arem is no longer on our list.) and docs who will not Rx over a certain dose of Armour. Docs who want to sell you a lot of expensive supplements do not last long either. jytdtp wrote: Yep, she is at same location as Akright. Do you only post docs who prescribe armour...? She sure must have—she did my hormones, my cholesterol, my dietary patterns, even suggestions for stress reduction, etc and we talked 30 minutes on the phone last week about my labs and I go in to see her in the morning to start T3 even though I am “in range” since I don’t feel “fixed.” She treats the whole person head to toe and does a thorough exam. Guest guest
RAI = RadioActive Iodine. It can be used in a scan or in a larger dose for an ablation.jytdtp wrote: Jan, what is RAI? Guest guest
I just want to say that I didn't get a good report about Fetchik and Akright when I was in San . BUT I didn't consider the source! Out of the mouth of the most arrogant and uncaring Endo in the entire state. They sound like good doctors so far. Maybe that is why he was bad mouthing them. > Sue - >
