Vivian will Rx Armour. She is on our list. (So will the "Big A" and the "Big P", but they would keep you undermedicated.) (My doc in Lubbock does his own fnas, so does not need to refer for that.) Has your TSH been kept suppressed to try to shrink the nodules? Suppression is the only non-surgical treatment for small nodules. Most (but not all) endos know that. How large are they? You might ask for a referral to someone at MD , such as Nicolas Sarlis, and just be insistent about staying on Armour. Sarlis prefers Cytomel plus $ynthroid,

but will reluctantly Rx Armour. Kate Guynn wrote: I just got back from my ultrasound. I won't know anything until late tomorrow or Wednesday. However it "looks" like at least two of my nodules have grown in the past year. They are going to give my doctor the report by tomorrow afternoon. I have "a feeling" that if it has grown she will want me to go to an Endo for an FNA etc. I roll my eyes and groan at the thought of having to deal with someone that will probably not like me on Armour and a TSH suppressed. With that said any suggestions on Endos, Jan? My next to oldest sister is a nine year ThyCa survivor. I'm not worried but I just want to do what is right for me and that

can be different that what the doctors think is right.Kate

My TSH has been suppressed for over a year. Last year I had four that

where all under 1 cm. The two that I saw looked larger and the tech

wouldn't give info other than yes that was a nodule. I could be

wrong. But you know when you have a feeling. I don't know maybe it's just

that I feel crappy today. I don't think my GP will do an FNA. If it comes

to that maybe I just need to look for another GP that would do it. I guess

I assumed that only Endos or Certain Pathologist did FNA's. I should know

more by Wednesday. BTW I don't have to have a referral, I'm PPO. However

I don't know if MD is on our list. We are on Memorial Hermann

Freedom of Choice.

Thanks Jan!

They are both on the list, so I would just need to call to verify that they

really do take our insurance.

I just got a call back from the Dr office. 2 of my nodules are enlarged to

3-4cm, she wants me to see an Endo. It's Friday so I'm hitting voice mail

central. I have left messages with both Dr and Dr Sarlis. I

don't know if Dr Sarlis will see me w/o a cancer diagnosis.

So the waiting begins!

He should be willing to see you. There may be a waiting list however. With nodules that large (read "pingpong ball"), I would skip the fna and go directly to surgery. Maybe I misunderstood her, maybe it was 3-4mm. Aren't they normally

measured in cm?

Jan do you have suggested websites?

Thanks!

They are usually measured in mm if they are small and cm if they are over 1 cm. FNAs are generally not done on anything much smaller than 1 cm. Nodules of 3-4 mm would not be of any note. You most likely have pingpong balls.Kate Guynn wrote: Maybe I misunderstood her, maybe it was 3-4mm. Crap!!! Dr R's office just called, they don't take my insurance. And the

date was July 25th. That is nuts, two months! Any suggestions? Should I

just try to get in with anyone at MD ? Right now I don't know if

they will take my insurance.

Ok, I called my insurance they verified that MD IS in our

network. I can go without referral to any MD Doctor! She

documented the phone call in their computer system as we spoke!
