A couple of our members recently recommended Drs. Hansen and Hartig in Webster. Aother person recommended Dr. Pucillo in Sugarland. Houston is not exactly the best place to find a thyroid doc. Pharo is a female. Do check out our list on our site in "Files." If you see a doc listed on About Thyroid and do not see them on our list, there is generally a good reason for that. I go to Sullivan. He is in Los Calinas at Tiena Health. That's not far from Grapevine.

Dr. Launius in ville is one of our better thyroid docs, will Rx any thyroid med that you may need, takes no insurance, but has modest prices. There is also a Dr. Mahoney in Southlake, but we do not know anyone who has seen him. His website would suggest that he may be into supplements bigtime. So supplements is a big thing in helping treat hypothyroidism? I don't mean to be ignorant, but I have placed so much trust in modern medicine and never researched alternative treatments.....

It is going ok for now. I was diagnosed last March with Hashi's. I am on 90mg Armour, DHEA and Progesterone. I have more energy and don't have to take naps. I do have problems with increases in Armour (heart palpitations, nervousness) for about a week. Sullivan is slowly increasing my meds. He did a Comprehensive Metabolic blood test a few weeks ago along with T3 Free, T4 free and TSH. I am satisfied with the care I am getting. I do want more energy and to lose some weight.

I am on something called Blood Builder by Systemic. It doesn't contain iron, only herbs, but supposedly it builds the blood (obviously by the name). Anyway, I'll let you know how it works. It was suggested by my nutrionist.

No he hasn't tested cortisol or iron. I have always been anemic. I can't tolerate iron supplements at all.

What happens when you take iron supplements? I hope you are able to eat lots of meat and possibly some liver. I would ask for a morning cortisol and serum ferritin tests. I could mention it to my doctor, but doctors don't ordinarily know a thing about nontraditional treatments! they jsut automatically say "no". I have faith in my nutritionist. She used to share an office with my doctor, actually. Im not sure if the blood builder is doing anything really, though. I've been on it amonth because I told her about the ferritin problem. She is not a big fan of iron supplementation for a variety of reasons. I think eating beef every day is a much more natural approach. Fortunately, my ferritin was not extremely low, just low. I might have to resort to iron supplementation, but I think being constipated is the worst thing for my body's health! So, if anyone knows of an iron supplement that doesn't upset the stomach and/orcause constipation....let me know. Steph

Ferrous bisglycinate, also called "Advanced Ferrochel." Solgar Gentle Iron is one brand. There are also products from Enzymatic Therapy and Source Naturals.
