Hi ,

Thanks for the info.

I've taken Singulair for 15 years. I have had no side effects. I was concerned about the Advair.

After a bout with bronchitis recently, I was prescribed Advair along with Singulair.

My doctor prescribed taking Advair once a day. I take 10mg. Singulair once a day in the morning. Should I take the Advair at night, maybe 12 hours apart?

It's usually advised to use the advair 12 hours apart to keep an even amount of medication in your lungs.

I take the Singulair in the mornibg, so take the Advair at night?

Do you think Advair is stronger than Singulair?

To keep an even amount of medication in your lungs, why not take 2 Singulair 12 hours apart? I think it might be because I've taken Singulair for 15 years, I might be getting slightly immune to it. It still works but there are more pollutants in the air, I'm older, more things to consider.

Is Advair one of the strongest ASTHMA medicines out there? Is Symbicort a step down treatment from Fortidal and Asamex? I was on double dosage of the 2 before I got switched to Symbicort and not sure if it is strong enough, new to this ASTHMA almost a year with it but lots of attacks in the last 6 months.

Hicando,

I would talk to your doctor for advice on what time of day to take the

Advair. If you are only supposed to be taking it once daily (some

people take a higher dose and take it twice daily), I personally would

take it in the morning. The long acting bronchodilator serevent in it

has about a 12 hour length of action. For those using it in our house,

they are more active and have more triggers during the daytime, so they

need the maximum benefit in the daytime. However, I think this might

vary from patient to patient as some people have worse asthma at night.

Therefore, I would give your doctor's office a call to see what they

recommend.

Singulair is supposed to last 24 hours, I think and I also believe the

max dose is 10 mg daily. My son takes the kid dose of 5 mg. As far as

whether Advair is stronger than Singulair, it is a totally different

kind of medicine. When asthma gets worse, doctors usually want to add

some steroids to calm down that inflammation. The inhaled steroids are

the best thing for doing that. If you have worse asthma, it usually

needs more than just Singulair. Singulair and Advair together is a

common drug regimen. Singulair is helpful for the allergies too, not

just asthma, since leukotrienes contribute to allergy symptoms too.

And I've tried all the antihistamines (OTC and Rx) except the new Xyzal,

and Zyrtec has been by FAR the best and strongest for me. Adding

Flonase nasal spral in addition to the Zyrtec really helped too.

I hope you feeling better after the bronchitis. That is no fun!

I'm not sure, I use to be on Advair, my dr wouldn't even discuss putting me back on it when I had this bad episode that didn't respond to the medium range of meds, so he put me on Symbicort160 and I swear within 12 hours I felt a huge difference! So I'm wanting to say it's a tad higher? But I'm not expert on the issue as I'm a patient not a dr or a nurse. I can only speak from my own experience.

Also when I go down into the yellow zone I use Qvar80 along with my rescue inhaler every 4 hours, If I'm in the green zone than it's just the allergy pill and Simbicort160. Are you monitoring your Peak Flow numbers? If not this might be very beneficial to you to keep your asthma under control. On my list I created from this one, I keep track of the gals and their numbers. It helps them to see where they are and gives each other amazing support!

no, no one ever told me that I should be doing this, my doctor in Princeton just wanted to treat me and be a good kid. I am 34, I am thinking since I am having more severe problems that this may be a good idea, along with a nebulizer, getting so tired of being in pain.
